The Landmaster is a tank appearing in the Star Fox series as a secondary playable vehicle.

Information

The Landmaster was a tank that the Star Fox team had at their disposal for ground-based missions requiring heavy firepower. Deployed from the Great Fox, the Landmaster had no problems navigating the surface of planets thanks to its propulsion system that gave it limited hovering capabilities. Thanks to this, it could fly over buildings, perform barrel rolls, and generally get itself out of any troubles it may encounter. However, it had limited capabilities in fighting aircrafts, making it an easy target.

In Star Fox 64, the Star Fox team used it on the planet Titania due to the sandstorms that prevented the Arwings from flying. It was also used on the MacBeth mission, when it was necessary to stop a train carrying supplies for Andross.

Following the Sauria mission, the Landmaster was revised with all-terrain wheels in place of the original tank treads. Although the armor was weakened, the turret was fully optimized to fire in all directions. As a result, the Landmaster became more effective at dealing with aerial attacks, despite being more vulnerable to all attacks in general. It was then utilized for various missions in Star Fox Assault.

• In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the Landmaster appears as a trophy. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, the Final Smashes of Fox, Falco and Wolf involve summoning Landmasters that can roll, fire lasers and float with jet engines. There are three different trophies of the Landmaster in Brawl and two in the 3DS/Wii U Smash, one for each character's Final Smash (with Wolf no longer being playable in the latter game). The Landmaster would later be replaced as a Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Trivia

• Although never stated, it's likely Slippy or Beltino built the tank since it uses the same propulsion system as the Blue Marine.
