Renado is the shaman-in-residence of Kakkariko Village. While his past is unspecified, his lifestyle suggests a past that harkens back to an earlier culture that existed in that area. Renado lives in a specially painted adobe hut on the fringe of town, and appears to be an accepted and revered member of the community. He is a skilled healer who looks after the sick and wounded, and is a spiritual leader in touch with the Spirit Guardian of the town. It is not suggested openly, but his appearance and wisdom suggest descent of the Sheikah tribe.

Regarding the Twilight and the dark shadows that emerge from it, it is Renado who correctly guesses that the monsters might be related to the ancient people who once occupied the land Kakkariko was situated upon.

At one point, the luckless shaman becomes the unwilling recipient of affection from Telma, the husky barkeep from Hyrule Town. In private, he grudgingly concedes to Link that he finds her company completely intolerable.

Renado has one child, a daughter, named Luda. The fate of his wife is unknown.

Likewise, when Prince Ralis of the Zora collapses, Link brings him to Renado, who revives him. Lastly, when Ilia loses her memory, Renado takes her in and studies her condition. Late in the game, he develops a plan to revive her memory using mementos from her past, and dispatches Link on a search for these items.
