Vaporeon is one of the original three of the seven alternate evolved forms of Eevee that was introduced in the first generation games. It is Eevee's water evolution, obtained by exposing Eevee to a Water Stone.

Vaporeon is a Pokémon that grew fins and gills which allows it to live underwater as a result of a spontaneous evolution, and it has the ability to freely control water. They live to close to the water, preferring beautiful shores, and their long tails are often confused for a mermaid's. Vaporeon has cell structures similar to water molecules, allowing it to melt away and become invisible in the water. It uses the fins on the top of its tail to swim, allowing it to blend in  perfectly with the water, and its vibrating fins foretell rain.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Time, Vaporeon could be found on the first twenty-four basement levels of Lake Afar. In Pokémon Ranger, it is found in Fiore Temple.

Vaporeon is additionally found at Almia Castle and Altru Tower in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. In Pokémon Rumble, Vaporeon is found at Bright Beach. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it could be found at Canal Ruins and Ice Temple. Vaporeon also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Beach Zone.

Other Appearances
*Vaporeon has appeared in several episodes of the Pokémon anime, first in an episode featuring several brothers who owned Eevee's original three evolutions and tried to pressure their younger brother into evolving his Eevee, with one brother having a Vaporeon. In the Johto episodes, one of the Kimono Sisters owned a Vaporeon. Vaporeon was also shown as the sole Pokémon of the elderly woman Galea in a Hoenn episode.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, the microchip on Red's Eevee allowed it to temporarily evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon and switch between them, although this ended after it permanently evolved into Espeon.

Trivia
*Its name is derived from "water vapor", and the "eon" is a recurring suffix with all of Eevee's evolutions that may be derived from evolution as well as Eevee's prototype English name.
