Trapinch is most accustomed to arid environments such as deserts in particular. They dig inescapable pits in sand and patiently wait for prey to stumble into the trap. They can survive for a week without any water, and their large jaws are strong enough to break through boulders. Trapinch's large head is also a disadvantage, as if it tips over onto its back it will have a hard time getting back up.

It evolves into Vibrava at Level 35.

*In the Pokémon anime, Trapinch was initially featured in a Hoenn episode where Ash's group helped a pair of researchers track a Trapinch through an underground labyrinth that had been made by Trapinch. Trapinch were shown to gather at an underground lake in the labyrinth in large numbers and evolve into Vibrava, and the Trapinch with the transmitter was among those that evolved. Aside from this episode, Trapinch have mostly made minor appearances.

*In the ''Pokémon Adventures'' manga, Trapinch have mostly made minor appearances belonging to opponent trainers.

=Trivia=

*Its name seems to be just a combination of "trap" and "pinch".

*Trapinch seems to be based on the larval form of the antlion, which has a similar tendency to hide in sandy pits.
