Nidoqueen evolves from Nidorina when exposed to a Moon Stone. It has a sturdy and hefty body which is covered with needle-like scales, allowing it to pull off powerful moves such as tackles which send foes flying.  Its extremely tough, needle-like scales grow in cycles and stand up when excited. Nidoqueen never shows any signs of shrinking from any attack. They also use their body to seal off the entrance of their nests and protect their young from predators. A Nidoqueen is in fact said to be at her strongest when protecting her young.

*Nidoqueen was featured in an episode of the Pokémon anime as one of the Pokémon belonging to Danny, gym leader of Naval Island, who used it to compete against Ash's Lapras in a geyser-freezing competition. A Nidoqueen that was cloned was also shown as one of Mewtwo's followers, and Gary had his own Nidoqueen that he used in battle from time to time. It was defeated by Ash's Snorlax during their big battle.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Giovanni has a Nidoqueen that he used in battle with Red, where she nearly defeated Red's Snorlax until his Pikachu took her down with an electric attack. Green's Nidorina also evolved into a Nidoqueen during the FireRed/LeafGreen arc and has served as one of her team's main members. Red also caught a Nidoqueen during his first visit of the Safari Zone, but he has never used it in battle.

Trivia
*As with its pre-evolved forms, the first part of its name could be a play on "needle" or a derivation of the "ni", the Japanese word for "two", which would represent the two different genders of Nidoran with separate evolutionary lines. The second part of its name is of course "queen", in reference to both its gender and its power.

*Despite their maternal nature, neither the Nidoqueen nor Nidorina are capable of breeding offspring through known means. Any children they could have must be born while they are still Nidoran.
