Chinchou evolves into Lanturn at Level 27. It has a singular antenna which shines a light bright enough to illuminate the ocean's surface from a depth of over three miles. Its light can sometimes even be seen from on board a ship at night. Lanturn's light gives the sea the appearance of a starlit night, so it has received the nickname of "The Deep-Sea Star". The light is produced by a chemical reaction between bacteria and its body fluids inside the antenna.

Lanturn also has bright, light-emitting orbs along its back, which were formed from part of its dorsal fin. It uses its light to lure in prey and intensifies the light to blind it before swallowing it whole.
