A Dugtrio evolves from a normal Diglett at Level 26. Dugtrio are Diglett triplets that originally split from the same body. They all think alike, which causes them to cooperative and work perfectly together as a team. They bob their heads separately to loosen the soil nearby and make it easier for them to burrow. They can dig through even the hardest ground and burrow up to sixty miles below sea level, which sometimes causes actual earthquakes.

In ''[[Pokémon Pinball]]'', Dugtrio could be obtained only through evolution. One also appeared at the end of a Diglett-themed bonus stage on the Red Table as the final target to hit. In ''[[Pokémon Snap]]'', Dugtrio appeared within the Tunnel area. Amongst the Pokémon line of [[e-Reader]] cards, Dugtrio appeared only in the "Sweet Scent" short where it and [[Diglett]] were summoned by [[Vileplume]]'s Sweet Scent in one version and kept it company. A Shadow Dugtrio could be snagged from Cipher Peon Kolax on Citadark Island in ''[[Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness]]''. After being purified, this Dugtrio coould be transferred to any of the third generation color versions.
