Chansey is a kindhearted Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It was originally believed to have no evolutionary line, but it was later shown to evolve into Blissey in the second generation and from the baby form Happiny in the fourth generation.

Chansey evolves from a Happiny when it levels up while holding the Oval Stone during daytime. When breeding, Chansey will usually give birth to other Chansey unless the parent is holding a Luck Incense, which causes the baby to hatch as a Happiny. Chansey themselves are known for being rare and elusive Pokémon, being few in numbers and difficult to capture. They are said to bring happiness to those who get them due to their kind nature.

A Chansey lays several nutritious eggs a day. It will not share its eggs with those who have evil in their hearts, but their compassionate nature leads them to share their eggs with any injured person or Pokémon that they come across. The eggs are apparently delicious enough that even people who are not hungry will eagerly devour them. A Chansey usually walks carefully in order to protect the egg that it keeps in its pouch, but it can also run away very quickly. Chansey evolves into Blissey when it levels up with a high amount of happiness.

*In the Super Smash Bros. series, Chansey first appeared in the original Super Smash Bros. as both one of the Pokémon that could be summoned at random with the Poké Ball item and as one of the Pokémon that could appear at random from the Silph Co. elevator at the Saffron City level. It reappeared as a Poké Ball Poké in Super Smash Bros. Melee and with the Saffron City stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Its effect is the same in all instances, as when Chansey appears, it will repeatedly toss eggs that were either health items or containters for other items. It is also among the few Pokémon that can be attacked and KO'd by players.

**Chansey has also been represented by a float in the Poké Floats level of Melee, a trophy in Melee and an Advanced-rank Support Spirit (which allowed a player fighter to start a battle equipped with a Fairy Bottle) in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Chansey's Spirit would possess Jigglypuff in a stamina battle where it would occasionally heal itself.
