Bertha was an elderly woman who was a member of Sinnoh's Elite Four. When she is first challenged by [[Lucas (Pokemon)|Lucas]]/[[Dawn]], Bertha saw the trainer as being adorable but having spine. She explained having a preference for Ground-type Pokémon and that she would like the trainer to show her what they had learned.

After being defeated, Bertha congratulated Lucas/Dawn, telling that their Pokémon worked as one and that she believed that was the trainer's greatest strength.
