Ariados evolves from Spinarak at Level 22. It can fire webs from its head as well as from its backside, although it is often hard to tell the ends apart. Ariados also endlessly spins a special string from its rear that leads it back to its nest, although it has also been said to not keep a nest in one specific spot. It usually wonders in search of food after darkness falls.

Ariados attaches silk to their prey and then sets them free, but only so that Ariados could track the prey to the prey and its friends. They scan scuttle on ceilings and vertical walls due to their feet being tipped with tiny hooked claws. Ariados usually its its thick and strong webbing to constrict opponents in combat.

*In the Pokémon anime, Ariados was first featured in an episode of the Johto series where it belonged to the owner of the Pokémon Jujitsu Academy that Koga's sister Aya was training at. Aya trained against the Ariados, and it also helped them to capture Team Rocket later on, showing a gift for creating kites with its web. Ariados have made other appearances throughout the series, usually in the possession of other trainers such as Harley during the Hoenn episodes and Pokémon Hunter J (who used the Ariados to bind victims) in the Sinnoh episodes.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Ariados was featured as Janine's Pokémon that she used in her battle with Falkner. It was shown to shoot a different, sharper type of web from its mouth as opposed to the webs from the spinneret at its rear. The Masked Man was also shown using an Ariados in an attempt to capture Celebi.

Trivia
*Its name seems to be derived from "arachnid" and may be a play on "Ariadne" (a figure from Greek mythology who used a thread to show a solution to a maze, which is similar to how Ariados uses its own threads as a guide). The "dos" in its name could also refer to either "dosu" (which is Japanese for "threatening") or the Spanish word for two (possibly referencing its twin stingers).
