'''Phanpy''' is a small elephantine Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. Its evolved form is [[Donphan]].

=Information=

Phanpy is a Pokémon that is strong despite its compact size, even when young. They are capable of easily picking up and carrying an adult human on their backs. Phanpy likes to swing its snout around playfully, but this can be dangerous due to its power. Its tendency to affectionately bump someone with its snout also can unintentionally send the target flying. Phanpy also uses its nose to shower itself, usually in the early mornings when shores of rivers are deserted. When other Phanpy arrive, they begin dousing each other and then rest by the river to dry.

Their ears function as big fans to cool them down when the temperatures become too hot for them. Phanpy dig vertical holes at the edges of rivers to function as their nests. A Phanpy claims its nesting areas by marking the ground with its trunk. It evolves into Donphan at Level 25.

In ''[[Pokémon: Gold and Silver Versions|Pokémon: Silver]]'' (or ''Gold'' in Japan), ''[[Pokémon: Crystal Version|Crystal]]'' and ''[[Pokémon: HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions|HeartGold]]'', Phanpy was uncommonly found at Route 45. In ''Crystal'', Phanpy was rare, appeared only during the morning and also was found at Route 46. In ''HeartGold'', they could also be found at Mt. Silver Cave.

In ''[[Pokémon: FireRed and LeafGreen Versions|FireRed and LeafGreen]]'', they appeared more commonly at the Canyon Entrance and Sevault Canyon. In ''[[Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Versions|Diamond, Pearl]]'' and ''[[Pokémon: Platinum Version|Platinum]]'', Phanpy would appear somewhat commonly at Route 207 during swarms.

In ''[[Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness]]'', Phanpy could be uncommonly caught at the Oasis Poké Spot and then could be transferred from there to any of the third generation color versions. In ''[[Pokémon Channel]]'', it appeared at Springleaf Field on rainy days and cloudy evenings. In ''[[Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire]]'', it could be hatched from an egg. In ''[[Pokémon Trozei!]]'', it was found at Secret Storage 6, Endless Level 3, Forever Level 3 and Mr. Who's Den. It could be recruited in ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams]]'' at the first three floors of Great Canyon and the tenth through ninteenth floors of Southern Cavern as well as in ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness|Explorers of Time and Darkness]]'' at Marine Resort and Final Maze. In ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky]]'', Phanpy was also available as one of the starter Pokémon whom the player could be turned into at the beginning of the game.

In ''[[Pokémon Ranger]]'', Phanpy appeared at Lyra Forest and Olive Jungle. In ''[[Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs]]'', it was found at Faldera Island. Phanpy also appeared in ''[[PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure]]'' at the Cavern Zone.

*In the anime, a Phanpy hatched from an egg Ash received as a prize late in the Johto series. He scarcely used it, and it lost its first major battle against [[Pryce]]'s Dewgong, although it was able to defeat an opponent's [[Slugma]] during the Silver Conference. Ash left it with [[Professor Oak]] along with most of his team at the end of the Johto series, but he brought the now matured Phanpy back during the Battle Frontier series. It evolved into Donphan while fighting off a [[Team Rocket]] mech.
*In the ''Pokémon Adventures'' manga, Phanpy was not featured until the ''Emerald'' arc. Emerald borrowed one from Crystal for use in the Battle Pyramid, and he used it primarily for its Pick-Up ability which gave his team items to survive off of.

=Trivia=

*Its name is taken from the end of "elephant", and the "py" may be meant to evoke "baby", due to it being a small and immature stage.
