'''Mareep''' is an electric sheep Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the first form in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being [[Flaafy]] and [[Ampharos]].

=Information=

Mareep has a fluffy coat of wool that rubs together in order to build up a static charge. It also has a lightbulb on its tail that shines more brightly depending on Mareep's electrical charge. Mareep's fleece also doubles in volume while building static electricity, and people will receive shocks just from touching it. Its fleece is perpetually growing, although Mareep sheds all of its fleece in the summer. It usually grows back within a week. Mareep have also been known to store lots of air in its soft fur, which keeps it cool during summer and warm during winter.

It evolves into Flaafy at Level 15.

In ''HeartGold'' and ''SoulSilver'', it could also be caught at the Safari Zone's Rocky Beach area when enough Forest objects were present, and if given a special password, Primo at Violet City could give the player an egg that had could randomly hatch as a Mareep, or a [[Wooper]] or [[Slugma]]. It could also be caught at the [[Pokéwalker]]'s Big Forest and Icy Mountain Rd. courses, from which it could be transferred to ''HeartGold''/''SoulSilver''.

In ''[[Pokémon: FireRed and LeafGreen Versions|FireRed, LeafGreen]]'' and ''[[Pokémon: Emerald Versions|Emerald]]'', Mareep appeared at the Altering Cave when an [[e-Reader|e-card]] was used, and in ''Emerald'' it could be normally found at the Safari Zone's extension. In ''[[Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Versions|Diamond, Pearl]]'' and ''[[Pokémon: Platinum Version|Platinum]]'', Mareep appeared at Valley Windworks when using the [[Pokéradar]]. In ''[[Pokémon: Black and White Versions|White]]'', Mareep could be found at the White Forest.

In ''[[Pokémon Colosseum]]'', Mareep could be obtained through an e-card, while in ''[[Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness]]'', a Shadow Mareep could be snagged from Cipher Peon Yellosix at Cipher Key Lab. In both instances (and after the Shadow Mareep has been purified in the later case), Mareep could then be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In ''[[Pokémon Channel]]'', Mareep is featured at the Mareep Farm channel, where they can be counted leaping over a fence, which makes [[Pikachu]] tired. In ''[[Pokémon Trozei!]]'', Mareep was found at Huge Storage 4 and Mr. Who's Den.

In ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams]]'', Mareep was found at the first five floors of Lightning Field. In ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness|Explorers of Time and Darkness]]'', it could be recruited at the first seven floors of Amp Hills, the first seventeen floors of Shimmer Hill and the first forty-eight floors of FInal Maze. *In the Pokémon anime, Mareep were initially featured in an episode of the Johto series where a flock of them were shepherded by a girl named Mary and her mother. Mary and her own Mareep, Fluffy, were able to gain the confidence and skill they needed to enter in the Mareep Festival over the course of the episode, after being able to defeat [[Team Rocket]]. Mareep have also made other minor appearances throughout the series.

=Trivia=

*Mareep's name seems to simply be a combination of "Mary" (a little girl who owns sheep in children's stories and songs) with "sheep". Its evolutionary line may also be inspired by the title of the book, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?".
