Houndoom evolves from Houndour at Level 24. Like its previous form, Houndoom travel in packs, and the leader is the Houndoom with the horns raked sharply back. They fight amongst themselves in order to choose the leader. Most Pokémon retreat upon hearing Houndoom's eerie howling, and long ago it was believed that Houndoom's howls could summon the grim reaper. Houndoom can breathe out flames which originates from toxins burning within their body. Apparently, those burned by the flames that Houndoom breathes will always feel the pain due to the toxins contained within.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Houndoom could appear at the Safari Zone's Plains area when enough Rock objects were placed there.

*In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Houndoom appeared as an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit that had the added effect of boosting the strength of fire attacks. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Houndoom's Spirit would possess Wolf O'Donnell and exhibit the effect of Superspicy Curry (which essentially equates to perpetual fire breath).
