Gastrodon evolves from Shellos at Level 30. Like its earlier form, it has two different known color variations (blue and pink) that are found in separate areas. Gastrodon's entire back was covered by a sturdy shell in ancient times, and traces of this shell remain in its cells. Gastrodon are known for their pliable, boneless bodies, and they are capable or regrowing any body parts that get torn off. It usually lives in shallow tidal pools. As a defense mechanism, they ooze purple fluid to distract the opponent while they escape.

*In the Pokémon anime, during the Sinnoh series Cynthia was shown to have a pink Gastrodon in her party. Zoey's pink Shellos also eventually evolved into a Gastrodon near the end of the Sinnoh series, and she used it for the Sinnoh Grand Fesival. Paul also had his own blue Gastrodon during the Lily of the Valley Conference, where it ultimately was beaten by Ash's Buizel, Other Gastrodon have made occasional minor appearances.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Gastrodon was featured as part of Jupiter's team in the Diamond/Pearl arc.

Trivia
*Its name is a play on "gastropod" (which is the name of the order that slugs and snails belong to) combined with "don" (which could represent a leader or also refer to -don being used a suffix for some dinosaur names due to its prehistoric appearance).
