Wario Blast: Featuring Bomberman! is a Bomberman game for the original Game Boy that acts as a crossover with Wario, who at the time had been just recently introduced but was quite popular. This game is actually reworked from the Japanese game Bomberman GB

Story[edit]

Wario manages to somehow stumble into Bomberman's world. He decides to loot the world to please his avarice. However, Bomberman finds out about this and plans to stop him.

Gameplay[edit]

The game is similar to a usual Bomberman game, except that the player can choose to play as either Bomberman or Wario. The only difference between the two characters, however, is that the enemies will then be based on the character not chosen. Each level has player navigating a room and using bombs to destroy enemies or certain objects. Power-ups can also be collected to affect the bombs. Wario Blast consists of eight rounds, each containing three levels with a unique boss.

Wario Blast had special features when played with the Super Game Boy attachment. These included a custom border featuring Wario and Bomberman, color graphics, different explosion sounds and a multiplayer mode where four players could compete.

Legacy[edit]

The game's most notable landmark is as the first game featuring a full crossover between Mario and another series.

Sequel[edit]

While there was never any follow-up to this crossover, the Japanese version of this game was followed by Bomberman GB 2, which was released in America as simply Bomberman GB (due to the original having become Wario Blast).
