Swanky Kong is a recurring Kong Clan character from the Donkey Kong series. He acts as the resident game show host of Donkey Kong Island and has hosted various minigames over the course of his appearances.

Background

Swanky Kong first appeared in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, where he ran a Bonus Bonanza game show in various areas of Crocodile Isle. In this appearance, Swanky wore a 70's-style get-up and sported an afro. In the GBA remake, Candy Kong also appeared as his gorgeous assistant, and he would also appear to charge the Kongs when they rechallenged bosses.

In the original version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, Swanky ran Swanky's Sideshow, a chain of target-hitting minigames housed within circus tents. He was also redesigned to be dressed as a carnival barker. However, the Game Boy Advance version retconned that Swanky had ended Swanky's Sideshow prior to the game. Instead, he had a series of Virtual Reality centers known as Swanky's Dash, with a Banana Bird as the prize to the lucky winner at each center. Swanky was reverted to his Donkey Kong Country 2 design for this appearance.

• In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Swanky Kong appeared as a Support Spirit, using his artwork from Donkey Kong Country 2. His Spirit's effect was for the character to start a match holding a Banana Gun, and in Spirit battles his Spirit possessed Donkey Kong.

Trivia

• A Swanky's Sideshow tent was seen on Donkey Kong's field in Mario Superstar Baseball. Swanky's image (using the artwork from the original release of Donkey Kong Country 3) was seen on a billboard on the tent advertising an attraction known as the "DK Cannon".
• Swanky's sprite is based directly off of Donkey Kong's, just like Funky Kong's.
