Super Punch-Out!! is the Super NES's installment of the Punch-Out!! series. It acts as a counterpart to the arcade game of the same name as well as a sequel to the NES game Punch-Out!!. It was initially only available through Nintendo Power in Japan.
Story[edit]
The player takes the role of a boxer (possibly Little Mac, but it is not clarified). The player works their way to the top to become the WVBA champion.
Gameplay[edit]
The player controls an unspecified boxer with the ability to throw punches as well as dodge and guard. The player can choose between punching the head or the body during regular play. As they land hits without being hit themselves, their special meter builds up, letting them to unleash one of four super punches. As with the first game, each opponent has certain patterns and weak spots that can be exploited. Each match ends when one of the boxers can't get up or if a boxer gets knocked out three times in a single round. The player loses if the time runs out.
Super Punch-Out!! for the Super NES added a variety of characters who were not in the arcade game, for a total of 16 opponents.

Ports and Remakes[edit]
- Super Punch-Out!! was unlockable in the Gamecube version of Fight Night Round 2.
- Super Punch-Out!! has been released for download through the Wii's Virtual Console in 2009, the Wii U Virtual Console in 2014 and for the New 3DS through the 3DS Virtual Console in 2016.
- In 2016, it was among the games included in the Super NES Classic Edition, though it was left out of the Japanese release.
- In December 2019, it was added to the library of Super NES games that were made available to play on the Nintendo Switch for anyone subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online service. This version included two player and online options. It was not made available for Japan until May 2020.
Sequels[edit]
It was not until 15 years later that the series received a follow-up in the form of Punch-Out!! for the Nintendo Wii.
