Super Famicom Wars is a tactical RPG that was released for the Super Famicom through the Nintendo Power system in 1998. It was an enhanced remake od the original Famicom Wars and was the last installment of the Famicom Wars series to be released on a home console until the spinoff Battalion Wars games. The game is notable for being the first to include four player battles as well as the factions Green Earth and Yellow Comet.

Information[edit]

This installment added eight new unit types and increased the maximum number deployed units from 48 to 60. Other new features included an AI that was enhanced to make decisions faster and 'Renaissance Mode', which would later be known as 'Fog of War' in localized Advance Wars games, wherein parts of the map are obscured for both sides. This installment retained the original Famicom Wars campaign involving Red Star and Blue Moon, while adding a new campaign that had 17 maps and featured two new factions: Green Earth and Yellow Comet. All of the factions now had COs (Commanding Officers) who behaved differently, and there were also unaffiliated COs who could be assigned to factions by the player. The game also featured a four-player mode involving the four factions that had ten unique maps.

Legacy[edit]

This installment was notable for introducing several concepts that would be used in later games, such as COs and what would be known as the Fog of War. As noted above, this one is also notable for introducing the Green Earth and Yellow/Gold Comet factions.

Sequels[edit]

The next Famicom Wars game to be released was Game Boy Wars 2, which came out later that year.
