Sky Skipper is an action arcade game created by Nintendo in 1981.

Story[edit]

Gorillas have invaded Wonder Kingdom and imprisoned the royal family. As Sky Skipper, you must free them.

Gameplay[edit]

The player must drop bombs on the heads of the gorillas while dodging the gorilla's attacks. When the gorilla is hit with the bomb, the member of the royal family he is guarding will start to jump around, making him easier to catch. The members of the royal family are based on cards; collecting four of the same suit in a row will earn the player a bonus.

Hitting the floor, wall, or ceiling will cause the player to crash, as well as running out of fuel. Flying through the smoke of a bomb will cause the player to lose altitude, but it can be regained.

Legacy[edit]

The game was poorly received, and many of the game's cabinets were converted into machines for the Popeye game. In the present day, only one of the original Sky Skipper arcade machines is known to still exist and is kept archived by Nintendo of America.

Ports/Remakes[edit]

  • In 2018, it was ported as a downloadable game for the Nintendo Switch as part of the Arcade Archives series.
