Sheba is a supporting character from Golden Sun who becomes a playable party member in Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Background[edit]

Sheba's background is shrouded in mystery, but it is believed to be tied into the ancient civilization of the Anemos. She apparently literally fell from the sky as a baby (possibly from the floating city of the Anemos, which doubles as Weyard's moon) and was discovered by the town of Lalivero. The whole community revered her as a child of the gods, and this belief was bolstered by the mind-reading Psynergy abilities that she developed. Sheba was known for her bravery, as well as hints of mischief, as she was never afraid to speak her mind. Sheba had been adopted by a local, Faran, who raised her with his wife as his own alongside their son, who acted as a brother to Sheba. She did love her foster parents and the people of Lalivero, but at the same time she always wondered about her true origins as well as her true purpose.

Golden Sun[edit]

At one point, Sheba was abducted by the soldiers of Babi and taken to Tolbi in order to force the people of Lalivero into helping him build his own lighthouse. Sheba spent this time incarcerated within his castle there, and it was there that she first encountered Isaac, Garet, Ivan and Mia. They were barely acquainted, although Sheba seemed to sense when Ivan was reading her mind. She was depressed during her time trapped there, but she became happy when she learned that she would be returned to Lalivero after the Colosso tournament. True to his word, Babi had a group of soldiers escort Sheba on the treacherous trek back to Lalivero very shortly after the tournament ended. However, before they could cross the Suhalla Desert, they were attacked by a vicious sandstorm. Sheba was evacuated to safe cover, but the rest of the soldiers were scattered. Sheba was stranded alone in the middle of the desert until Saturos and Menardi came across her, with their group that also consisted of Alex, Felix and Kraden. Saturos and Menardi decided to take her as a hostage for the time being. It was implied that her abilities and visions were useful in helping them to navigate the Venus Ruins, which lead to their immediate goal, the Venus Lighthouse. Felix objected to her being used as a hostage, but Saturos promised to release her when they reached the lighthouse. Kraden protected her as Saturos's group violently fought their way to the lighthouse.

Saturos and Menardi brought Sheba to the top of the Venus Lighthouse with them. Felix then arrived to stand up to the two of them for not keeping their word and releasing Sheba. Saturos revealed that he did indeed lie and planned to hold onto Sheba longer, as he considered her special and vital to accessing the Jupiter Lighthouse. Felix was ready to fight them for Sheba when Isaac's group arrived at the tower, ready to negotiate for Sheba's safety. Saturos noticed that Ivan was wielding a Shaman's Rod which he believed was the Rod of Hesperia and had Sheba read their minds to confirm it. Sheba gave an uncertain response due to their minds being veiled (and possibly trying to mislead Saturos), but Saturos took this as a good enough sign. He promised to ensure Sheba's safety in exchange for the rod, and Isaac's group complied. When Sheba tried walking over to Isaac's group, however, Saturos recalled her and said that he had specifically only promised that Sheba would not be harmed, not that she would be freed. They then had Felix escort Sheba to Idejima, where their ship was waiting, while they battled Isaac's group. Felix and Sheba wound up lagging behind and were still nearby following Saturos and Menardi's initial defeat. At this point, Felix remained committed towards carrying out Saturos and Menardi's plan by refusing to let Sheba leave with Isaac's group, knowing that she was needed to reach the next lighthouse. At that point, Saturos and Menardi engaged Isaac's group in a second round after fusing into a fierce Fusion Dragon. After Saturos and Menardi had been defeated and took their own lives, Felix and Sheba were still nearby when the lighting of the Venus Lighthouse caused a powerful tremor that fragmented the lighthouse. Sheba wound up falling over the side of the lighthouse, with Felix leaping after her. They were saved by a freakish stroke of luck in which a giant tidal wave caught them, breaking their fall. By further coincidence, they wound up washing ashore on the drifting Idejima, which had been split from the rest of the continent, where they were discovered shortly afterwards by Felix, Jenna, Kraden and Alex.

The Lost Age[edit]

They barely had time to catch up when they were all knocked out by Idejima's collison with Indra. Felix, Sheba, Jenna and Kraden soon woke up and regrouped, but they found that the mysterious Alex had disappeared. The group set upon their next goal of reaching the Western Sea to reach the last two lighthouses, but Jenna and Kraden questioned whether or not Sheba should come with them, leaving the decision up to her. Sheba wanted to remain with them, only saying that she felt it was her destiny. Truthfully, she hoped to find the secrets of her true parentage and why she was abandoned whenever they finally reached Jupiter Lighthouse. Sheba convinced the others that she should remain with them because of her powers as a Wind Adept, and they all set off on their new journey, eventually accompanied by the Lemurian newcomer Piers. Her knowledge came in handy sometimes, such as at Garoh, where she was able to deduce the subtle role that the wind from Air's Rock played in turning Garoh's inhabitants into Psynergy-wielding werewolves. Although they wound up exploring areas of Gondowan, they decided to steer clear of Lalivero so that Sheba would not be forced to return home.

Felix's group eventually reached Hesperia's Shaman Village and presented the Shaman's Rod to the locals in order to reach the Hover Jade, which was what they needed to ascend Jupiter Lighthouse. Moapa was impressed, believing that such magic could only be used by a descendant of the Contigo, but he still refused to give the Hover Jade to them unless they passed the rest of Trial Road. Sheba was at first barred from the tests due to her gender, as Moapa insisted that the chosen hero could only be male. Sheba objected, saying that she was as heroic as any man. They succeeded in clearing the road and earned the Hover Jade. They soon reached the Jupiter Lighthouse at long last and began to scale it. However, partway through their ascent they witnessed Isaac's group being ambushed by Agatio and Karst. Felix had to negotiate to save them by heading up to the top of the lighthouse with just Karst and Agatio while the rest of them stayed behind to watch over Isaac's party. But one by one, Jenna, Sheba and Piers each felt uneasy by the deal and rushed up to the top of the lighthouse where Felix had been himself ambushed by Karst and Agatio, helping him to defeat the two of them. After Jupier Lighthouse was ignited, Isaac's group and Felix's convened at Contigo to settle their clash. They ultimately agreed to work together in lighting the last lighthouse, and at the same time Sheba was there to witness Ivan learning the truth of his heritage. As they set off, Sheba was left feeling disappointed that she wound up learning nothing about her own past. Garet tried to comfort her by reminding her that Faran cared for her like a true father, but it was Kraden's story of being separated from his parents and never knowing a true home that made her feel better about the home that she did have in Lalivero.

The two groups then traveled to their last destination, Mars Lighthouse. The Wise One appeared to stop them from activating the lighthouse, but Sheba aided the others in telling the Wise One off. They then had to fight the "miracle" that he summoned, a three-headed Doom Dragon which Sheba was not at all impressed by. They defeated the dragon, but they were all disturbed to find that the dragon was actually a forcibly transformed version of Isaac's father as well as Felix and Jenna's parents. She felt like she shared Felix's pain, even though she did not know her real parents and felt that they could be alive somewhere. Mars Lighthouse was then ignited, which caused the formation of the Golden Sun, as well as the revival of the three seemingly deceased parents, while Sheba was confused about the Wise One's actions. All of them then made their way to Vale as their last journey. They arrived to find Vale in ruins, which horrified Garet in particular due to his entire family living there. Sheba's last line in the game was teasing Garet about his sorrow, as she could see that Garet's family was in fact alive and approaching them.

Sheba's life after the adventure remains unknown.

Abilities[edit]

Sheba is a Jupiter Adept, which makes her attuned to wind-based Psynergies. However, most of her abilities are a variable depending on her class (which can change depending on which Djinn are assigned to her) and which special items she has equipped. Her only definite Psynergy abilities are Whirlwind, Mind Read and Reveal, the latter of which is the special Psynergy that she learns at Air's Rock. In battle, primarily wields staffs and maces.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Dark Dawn, she has her own Encyclopedia page that appears when the player reads the Sun Saga 3 book, the Sun Saga books being in-universe retellings of the events of the prior games.
  • She is the only party member from the first two games whose life after The Lost Age is not explored at all within Dark Dawn.
