Regice is a legendary frozen Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It forms part of a trio with Regirock and Registeel as a group of legendary Pokémon that can only be found by following special instructions. The fourth generation introduced Regigigas as a fourth member of their group (and their implied creator).

Information[edit]

Regigigas is said to have created the three Regi- Pokémon as miniature duplicates of itself. Regice is said to have been made from a special ice mountain. Pokédex entries specifically compare Regice to having been made during an ice age from Antarctic ice that is the same kind found at the South Pole. The Regis were sealed away long ago due to the ancient people (specifically the ones of Hoenn) fearing "it". Regice is also said to have slept in a glacier for thousands of years. Regice controls frigid air of -328 degrees Fahrenheits, so things will be frozen solid just by going near it. Even though its body is made of ice, it cannot be melted, even by lava.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Regice was found in the Island Cave. The Regis had to be unsealed first by going to the Sealed Chamber with a Wailord and Relicanth at certain points in the party. Accessing the cave will then require reading a braille sign and then waiting for the entrance to appear. In Platinum, it would appear at the Iceberg Ruins within Mt. Coronet, but it could only be reached when the player has an event Regigigas in the party. The Regice appeared from the wall after solving a puzzle matching the symbols on its head and could then be be battled multiple times as long as the Regigigas was present until it was caught.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Regice could be found at the Ruins. In Pokémon Trozei!, it could be obtained through Random Agent Cards and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it was a boss at the twenty-fifth floor of Buried Relic and surrendered the Ice Part upon defeat. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Panula Cave. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was the boss of the ice chamber in Aegis Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Almia Castle.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, all three of the Regis were first featured in the ninth movies where they were guardians of the Tree of Beginning. All three also made several appearances in episodes of the Battle Frontier and Sinnoh series where they comprised Brandon's team.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, the Regis initially appeared at the end of the Ruby/Sapphire arc when Steven Stone worked with the Elite Four to awaken the Regis so that they could help to break up the battle between Groudon and Kyogre. During this battle, Glacia and Phoebe wound up controlling Regice. The Regis were left disoriented and weakened following the battle, at which point all three of them were caught by Brandon. They were then featured as his main team during the Emerald arc

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "regis" (which is for "royal") with "ice" (due to its composition).
