Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is a 2009 RPG game for the Nintendo DS that acts as a special third edition of the second installment of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon subseries (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness), that is known for featuring a darker storyline as well as incorporating nearly all of the fourth generation Pokémon.

Story[edit]

The player is suddenly washed up ashore and has been mysteriously turned into a Pokémon after having once been human. The player meets with a partner Pokémon and together they join the Wigglytuff Guild as a new team. However, mysterious problems have arisen throughout the world due to disruptions in time with rogue Pokémon causing trouble, Pokémon being unable to evolve and new Mystery Dungeons appearing. The player's team embarks to solve these problems while learning mysteries of the past and future.

Gameplay[edit]

Like the previous game, this game consists of a series of missions. The player can accept a mission, assemble a team of four, and carry out the mission. A successful mission will increase the teams rank as well as earn them a reward. Sometimes, there will be a chance to recruit a new Pokémon to the rescue team.

Additionally, the game adds most of the fourth generation Pokémon and features connection through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection as well as more touch screen interactivity. It also introduced Pokémon eggs into the series.

New Additions[edit]

The game adds five new Pokémon to play as, in addition to several new missions and cutscenes that expand the plot of the game.

Legacy[edit]

Ports/Remakes[edit]

  • In 2016, it was released for download through the Wii U's eShop as part of the Wii U Virtual Console. Notably, it was chosen for this release instead of Explorers of Time or Darkness, which did not receive any Virtual Console release.

Sequels[edit]

The next Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games would be a trio of WiiWare games that are collectively known as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Adventure Team.
