Pent is a playable unit in Fire Emblem who was originally mentioned in Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi.

Background[edit]

Pent was born to the Reglay family, the most prestigious noble house in Etruria. He grew up to become a powerful mage, the Count Reglay, and was named Etruria's Mage General. At one point, he gathered about twenty women to show their special skills to him, and he was to choose one of them as his wife. One woman, Louise, said her skill was with a bow and vowed to protect him for his entire life. Everyone laughed at her except for Pent, who admired how clear her heart was. They were soon married, but they had trouble with having children.

Pent and Louise also at one point befriended the Archsage Athos, who lived in the Nabata Desert, as well as his servant Hawkeye. Three years before Fire Emblem, Pent brought Erk home to act as his student. However, they were concerned when Erk spent all his time locked in his room studying and refused even to eat. After Erk collapsed, Pent told him he needed to spend time in the outside world and commune with the spirits of nature. He sent Erk out to work as a mercenary as part of his training, which led Erk to escort Serra and later Priscilla in the game. Sometime close to the events of Eliwood and Hector's Tales in Fire Emblem, Pent also hired Fiora and her group of mercenary pegasus knights to investigate Nergal's base on Valor Isle, likely at Athos's urging.

Pent and Louise were later called out from Etruria to attend Prince Zephiel's coming-of-age ceremony in Bern. There was at least ten days to spare prior to the ceremony, so Pent and Louise traveled to Nabata, where Louise stayed with Athos while Pent searched for a magic artifact in the desert. Pent was attacked by bandits upon the completion of his search in "Living Legend" (Eliwood Chapter 22, Hector Chapter 23). Even though Pent seemed capable of taking them on single-handedly, Eliwood and his company lent their assistance, as did Hawkeye. After they all met with Athos, Pent and Louise decided to accompany Eliwood and help him find the location of the Shrine of Seals from Queen Hellene during their time at Bern. They set off to find the queen in "Four-Fanged Offense" (Eliwood Chapter 23, Hector Chapter 24). They were uncertain if they would return, but Hawkeye had faith in them and entrusted them with a Heaven Seal to give to Eliwood and company when they felt Eliwood was ready.

They returned to Eliwood's group in "Unfulfilled Heart" (Eliwood Chapter 24, Hector Chapter 26) with news that they had to find the missing Fire Emblem before they could access the Shrine of Seals. At this point they joined Eliwood's group and gave them the Heaven Seal. They stayed with Eliwood's group until the final battle with the fire dragon. At this point, Louise revealed that she was pregnant. Athos died following the final battle, so Pent took over his studies. To do this, he resigned his position as Mage General. This caused rioting, but Pent and Louise endured.

Louise eventually gave birth to their son Klein, and they later had a daughter Clarine. He took in the young pitfighter Dieck after he saved Klein's life and treated him like their own child. But the other nobles disapproved, so Dieck bought his freedom and left. During the events of Fuuin no Tsurugi, Pent and Louise were still alive and living in their mansion. Despite the coup d'etat in Etruria, the two did not seem to be concerned in their usual laid-back manner.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

Pent is capable of having Support conversations with five other characters. Pent is automatically at A Rank with Louise, so he is only capable of having up to two conversations with other characters. Even though they are already at A Rank, Pent and Louise can have special conversations together in three certain chapters of the game ("The Cogs of Fate", "Victory or Death" and the second portion of the "Final Chapter: Light") which function as their Support conversations.

  • Canas- In the first Support conversation, Canas meets Pent after he picks up one of Canas's books. Canas is amazed at meeting Lord Pent and tells him that his wife always admired him. Pent also mentions hearing about Canas and asks him his story. In the second Support conversation, Pent says that he had read many books about dark magic, but he had never seen the high-caliber book which Canas possesses. Canas tells Pent that his family knows many secrets of dark magic. He tells Pent about his three brothers and his fears that he might one day befall a similar fate as them, yet he is still urged to continue onwards by his thirst for knowledge. Pent then discovers that Canas is the son of Niime and is amazed, and saying that he must tell his wife about this.
  • Erk- In the first Support conversation, Erk and Pent are reunited. Pent talks about Nergal and how hard it will be to face him. He asks Erk to tell him everything he knew about Nergal. In the second Support conversation, Erk had used up all of his magic in a battle, and to restore him Pent transferred half of his own magic to Erk. Pent chastised Erk for nearly killing himself and also told him that everyone made mistakes, but he shouldn't make that mistake twice.
  • Fiora- Fiora reports to Pent and apologizes for her unit's failure, but Pent apologizes in turn for not having better information about the enemy forces. Fiora takes full responsibility for her unit's failure and departs. In the second conversation, Pent approaches Fiora and gives her a jewel as a token of appreciation for her and her companions, telling her to sell it and to give the gold to the families of her fallen unit. Fiora thanks Pent both from herself and from her dead companions, saying that they were all grateful for treating them like equals and they were all proud to serve him. She then asks Pent to let her fight for him and rely on their lances.
  • Hawkeye- In the first Support conversation, Pent observes Hawkeye's battle cry and notes Hawkeye's ferocity. In the second conversation, Hawkeye expresses concern about how mad with power magic-users seemed to get. Pent assures Hawkeye that he will not lose himself into the great dark force, but Hawkeye notes that magic and knowledge has been the end of many men, and could be the end of either of them.
  • Louise- In the first conversation, Pent and Louise see the Shrine of Seals, and Pent thinks they should return to the Etrurian palace with a full report. But they decide to travel with Eliwood's company for at least a little while longer. Pent apologizes for putting Louise in awkward positions, but Louise insisted that she wanted to be there with him. In the second conversation, Louise speaks of how she believed Athos's health was declining and how he refused to partake in her meals. She then says Pent is similar in how he locks himself away for days without eating or sleeping, but Pent promises to amend his bad habits after the journey. In the final conversation, Pent talks about the looming battle with the dragon and how it will be different from anything they've encountered before. Pent assures that he will protect Louise. Louise in turn assures that she will protect him and the child inside of her, revealing to Pent that she is pregnant.
