Lucia is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and its sequel, Radiant Dawn.

Background[edit]

Lucia and her younger brother Geoffrey, descended from House Delbray, were raised alongside Elincia, the princess of Crimea, as Elincia's existence had to be kept secret, in a Crimean royal villa. The three shared fun childhoods. However, Lucia and Geoffrey were also trained to protect Elincia and became her retainers along with the Crimean count Bastian. Lucia was often irritated by Bastian's constant attempts to pursue romance with her.

Path of Radiance[edit]

Lucia in the Path of Radiance

Trouble arose when Crimea was invaded by Daein, and Elincia wound up on the run. She had been separated from Geoffrey and the others, so her former retainers went underground with Lucia and Geoffrey posing as merchants and Bastian a street performer, using the cellars of Castle Delbray as their secret meeting place. They worried for their lost princess until Ranulf brought word that Elincia was returning with a Crimean Liberation Army to reclaim Crimea. Lucia and Bastian set out with some troops to rendezvous with them, and they eventually spotted the Crimean forces by Riven Bridge in "Chapter 23: The Great Bridge".

She sent several of her soldiers to aid in the ensuing battle while Bastian returned to Delbray to inform Geoffrey of the princess's return. After the battle, he and Elincia shared a warm reunion. She updated Elincia about Crimea's current state and brought them to Castle Delbray in "Chapter 24: Battle Reunion". However, before they arrived, Bastian returned with news that Daein forces were attacking Delbray. Lucia and Bastian opted to bring Elincia to a second site in order to ensure her safety, but Elincia disagreed with this because she refused to sacrifice Geoffrey. Ike, the army's commander, ultimately chose to fight off the Daein forces at Delbray. Lucia and Bastian remained behind during the battle to watch over Elincia. However, Lucia and Bastian soon came to sympathize with Elincia's feelings and joined in on the ensuing battle.

Following the battle and Geoffrey's rescue, Lucia and the other two retainers decided to take choices that would allow them to continue living by Elincia's side, rather than sacrificing themselves to help the princess. The three retainers then vowed their loyalty to Elincia in the war to retake Crimea. In "Final Chapter: Repatriation", Lucia also asked Elincia to speak before the troops prior to the final battle. Following the war's conclusion, Lucia thanked Ike for helping her to understand how she could better serve the princess.

Radiant Dawn[edit]

In the next three years, Lucia became a trusted vassal of Queen Elincia and often accompanied her in her meetings with the Crimean nobles. However, she and Geoffrey were often criticized by said nobles due to their personal relationships with the queen. Lucia was actually quite adept and ran a spy of networks to look into possible threats to Crimean safety. In "Part 2: Of Countries and Kings", Lucia was left to think of Crimea's strategies herself while Bastian, Crimea's shining tactician, was away. Initially after Elincia heard word of Lord Ludveck plotting a rebellion (something Lucia and Geoffrey had already caught on to), Geoffrey wanted an all-out charge on Ludveck but Lucia convinced the queen to send her in order to find proof first.

Lucia led a squad to Lord Ludveck's manor under friendly pretenses in "Chapter 2: Tides of Intrigue". They soon found the proof, but were discovered by Ludveck's security and had to defeat them before returning to Crimea Castle. This prompted Ludveck into announcing his rebellion, and Geoffrey was then sent out on his charge in "Chapter 3: Geoffrey's Charge". However, Geoffrey turned out to be battling decoy forces while the real forces marched in search of Elincia. Lucia had the queen moved to the safety of Fort Alpea, but while meeting with one of her spies in a village, she found that Ludveck had infiltrated her spy network and knew Elincia's hiding spot. Lucia was captured by Ludveck, and most of her hair was cut off and sent to Elincia. But prior to her captivity she was at least able to send Calill and Haar to Alpea as reinforcements.

Lucia's hanging execution

After Ludveck was defeated and imprisoned at the end of "Endgame: Elincia's Gambit", Ludveck's remaining followers brought Lucia to a gallows, and they prepared to hang her unless Ludveck was liberated and declared king of Crimea, believing they would appeal to Elincia's care for her friends. Lucia was willing to sacrifice herself, and ultimately Elincia realized that she would have to be willing to sacrifice Lucia as well for the good of the country and denied the rebels' request. Luckily, just as her death neared, the noose was splintered by an arrow fired by Shinon. The Greil Mercenaries swarmed in and eliminated the remaining rebels.

Lucia remained by Elincia's side in "Part 3: Intersecting Vows", but during this part she did not enter action except as an NPC in "Chapter 10: The Heart of Crimea". Lucia was then sent to accompany the Hawk Army along with Elincia in "Part 4: Of Gods and Men".

After the wars ended, it was said that Lucia followed Elincia everywhere, and the two shared a love stronger than that of most blood sisters. If she had an A Support with Bastian, the two shared an ongoing romance but never married.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

In Path of Radiance, Lucia is capable of having Support conversations with three other characters.

  • Bastian- In the first conversation, Bastian attempts to sweet-talk Lucia into dating him, but she reminds him that she knows his tricks and advises him to give up. However, Bastian decides to redouble his efforts. In the second conversation, Lucia comes to Bastian because she had heard that a funny-looking man with a mustache had been injured. Bastian says he was not the one injured but takes this as a sign that Lucia cares about him, but Lucia had told him already how she felt, but Bastian refuses to listen to her reasoning, much to Lucia's chagrin. In the third conversation, Lucia admits to Bastian that he is not so bad and notes that his psychotic behavior appears to be just an act, at which point she decides she might consider Bastian's proposal after the war's end. Lucia then quickly excuses herself to help Elincia, at which point Bastian foresees a bumpy road ahead for them.
  • Ilyana- Lucia comes across Ilyana and notes how adorable she is, but also shows concern for Ilyana's frail body. Ilyana starts to faint from hunger, so Lucia takes her back to her tent and, at Ilyana's demand, brings her food and decides to bring her something big and hearty to give her strength. In the next conversation, Lucia tries to have Ilyana undergo running exercises and after Ilyana is tired out, Lucia suggests a water break but Ilyana instead wants a meal similar to the last one. Lucia agrees but says she'll have to run for it. In the final conversation, Ilyana comes to Lucia starving after having five helpings of food. Lucia realizes that something is really wrong with Ilyana, but she decides not to abandon Ilyana and instead to help her. Ilyana agrees, saying she wants to be with Lucia because she's beautiful and strong and makes good meals. Lucia decides to whip up another meal for Ilyana but has her promise to train hard.
  • Janaff- Lucia introduces herself to Janaff in a very cordial manner, but Janaff says they're fighting together in the army so they should solidify their friendship in a more casual atmosphere, suggesting a night on the town, but Lucia does not think her father will approve, and Janaff realizes she's younger than he though she was. In the next conversation, Janaff talks about Phoenicis, and Lucia raises the topic of its relations to other countries and suggests it looks towards diplomatic relations with Crimea. Janaff says that the deal is ultimately up to the king and admits that he used to hate beorcs, but he has come to like them after befriending Lucia. In the third conversation, Janaff complains that peaceful living between beorcs and laguz will not come easily and if war erupted between Phoenicis and Begnion, he believes that Lucia will support Begnion since Crimea is basically a Begnion colony. Lucia says she is dedicated to Crimea but hopes to meet Janaff after the war as a friend and not an enemy. Janaff agrees with this and also hopes she will be old enough to go out without a chaperon by then. Lucia also has an inbuilt Support bonus with Geoffrey and Elincia, which increases her chances of delivering a critical hit when Elincia is nearby (and vice-versa), and another bonus with Elincia that protects Lucia from critical attacks when Elincia is nearby.

In Radiant Dawn, Lucia has automatic Bond Supports with Elincia and Geoffrey.
