Background

A new recruit to Hocotate Freight, Louie single-handedly brought the company to its knees when attempting to deliver a shipment of golden pik pik carrots and losing it to "a bunch of space bunnies." To redeem himself, the President ordered Louie to go with Olimar to the Pikmin planet and pay off the company's debt. The Pikmin are just as attached to Louie as they are to Olimar, despite the fact that he gets a hungry stare every time he sees one. When the debt had been paid off, Louie was left behind while Olimar flew home. Thanks to a previously unrealized empathic connection with bugs, he was able to survive any encounters he faced and hid himself deep within one of the many caves around the planet. Olimar and the President returned and found Louie being held by the Titan Dweevil. They saved him and shoved him into the treasure hold, where the ship dubbed him the "King of Bugs" and measured his worth as 10 pokos.

Louie's true love lies in cooking, and he tries to use several of the treasures they collected on the planet as cooking equipment. His time alone on the planet allowed him to devise recipes that would allow him to best cook the many creatures that they encountered. Though shy at first, Louie's time on the Pikmin planet seems to have made him more confident and out-spoken, and he goes around calling himself the King of Bugs with pride. He was promoted to Cookie Specialist by the President after the President ate some cookies from Louie's aunt.

• Louie is a play on Luigi's name, and is better than, say, Iglumi.
• There is a bonus cinema in Pikmin 2 that reveals that Louie ate the golden pik pik carrot shipment, not space bunnies.
• Louie was apparently controlling the Titan Dweevil via his empathic connection.
• Louie appears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
