Legault is one of the playable units in Fire Emblem and a former Black Fang member.

Background[edit]

Legault joined the Black Fang during its earlier years, when "you could count all its members on one hand". He became good friends with many of his fellow Black Fang members. Like all of the Black Fang's members, he was an assassin, but he was given a special job; Legault was the one sent to kill all Black Fang members whom had betrayed the organization. Legault liked the Black Fang in its glory days, before it was corrupted by Sonia. Legault's work changed, and he found himself being assigned to kill innocent people as well. But eventually Legault was assigned to kill a woman named Aesha who had made a mistake. He did the deed, but this led him to question his loyalty to the Black Fang.

Legault ultimately decided to betray the Black Fang. In "Dragon's Gate" (Eliwood Chapter 19, Hector Chapter 20 of Fire Emblem), he made his move. Legault began looting the Black Fang installation at Dragon's Gate. If Eliwood or Hector talked to him, Legault would be convinced to join Eliwood's group, as the entire group was dedicated to thwarting the Black Fang. He had felt bad about state of the Black Fang, which was like his own family (feeling particularly sentimental when battling Linus or Lloyd, or the morph clones of them or Brendan Reed), but he found new family with Eliwood's group.

Possible Fates[edit]

Legault has two different endings, depending on whether or not he has A Rank Support with Isadora.

  • Default Ending- Legault searched the lands for Black Fang refugees and helped them to ease their loss, as well as his own.
  • Isadora and Legault's Ending- After the war, Isadora returned to Pherae while Legault went to Bern. They remained in each others' hearts regardless of their separate paths. Ten years later, they met again as enemies on the battlefield.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

Legault is capable of having Support conversations with five other characters.

  • Heath- In the first conversation, Legault meets with Heath and notices that he is jumpy as if he is on the run from someone. Legault guesses he is a deserter from Bern's wyvern riders. Heath nearly flees after Legault mentions his association with the Black Fang, but Legault assures Heath he is no longer with them and simply wants to lighten his mood. In the second conversation, Heath and Legault talk, and Legault notes that Heath is a deserter and Legault a traitor, jokingly saying they were made for each other. In the third conversation, Heath asks Legault why he always hangs around near him. Legault says that one reason is that Heath, as a wyvern rider, would come in handy against any Black Fang assassins sent after him. Legault promises to help Heath stop people sent to arrest him from Bern in exchange. Heath thinks Legault is getting the short end of the stick, but Legault says that he likes Heath for sticking to his principles while on the run and being recklessly honest, and offers friendship between fugitives.
  • Isadora- In the first conversation, Isadora asks Legault about the fighting skills of the Black Fang assassins, but Legault tells her they are overrated. He mentions that Linus and Lloyd themselves are great fighters, but Legault refers to him as an old leftover who is useless in battle. In the second conversation, Isadora challenges Legault to a sparring match at which point he reminds her she is overrated them. He tells her that assassins are weak by nature and accomplish their jobs through trickery, which Legault proves by fixing Isadora's scabbard during their conversation so that her sword was stuck. In the final conversation, Legault tells Isadora about how Eliwood's army reminds her of the old Black Fang and reminisces about the good old days. Isadora realizes she misunderstood all the Black Fang. Legault then asks Isadora if she has a man and tells the flustered knight that she should think about her love every now and then, since they were all human and living for battle would be sad. Legault mentions that if he were younger, he wouldn't let a woman like Isadora out of her sight, and she replies by asking if he's teasing her.
  • Jaffar- Legault expresses his surprise at seeing Nergal's right-hand man among Eliwood's ranks and attempts talking to him. Jaffar remains silent and only once addresses Legault by his nickname. In the second conversation, Legault says that he heard about Jaffar rescuing Nino and was surprised. He asks Jaffar what prompted the change in character, but Jaffar remains silent. Jaffar suddenly speaks and asks Legault to protect Nino if he dies. Jaffar says that he still knows nothing of emotion, but he is now afraid for Nino's safety, leading Legault to realize that even though he was still silent and creepy, Jaffar had changed quite a bit. In the final Support conversation, Legault tells Jaffar how things will be different now that he is getting softer, as he could be rendered powerless if anyone took Nino hostage. Jaffar says he intends to live with Nino regardless, so Legault accepts this and tells him to protect her for Linus and Lloyd as well, as they also looked out for her safety before they died.
  • Matthew- Matthew is immediately suspicious of Legault and threatens to watch his every move to see if he will betray them. In the second conversation, Legault tells Matthew about his job in the Black Fang after Matthew questions him about it. Finally, Matthew asks Legault why he quit the Black Fang. Legault tells Matthew about the Black Fang's corruption by Sonia and his forced assassination of Aesha. Matthew apologizes and says that he still distrusts Legault, but he realized that he had made Legault expose a piece of his heart that he didn't want touched. Legault tells Matthew he is a good kid and is wasted working as a spy.
  • Nino- Nino is glad to see Legault, but Legault does not like being referred to as uncle. He mentions that he is only slightly older then Linus and Lloyd, whom Nino calls her brothers, but Nino says Legault reminds her more of her other uncle, Jan. In the second conversation, Nino asks Legault when he joined Eliwood's group. She notes that he was in the group that battled her brothers in Bern and that Legault's eyes looked very sad. They both mention missing the Black Fang as well as Linus and Lloyd. In the final conversation, they both begin wondering what they'll do after the adventure with Eliwood is over, since unlike the others they had no homes to return to. Legault thought of making a living as a thief or mountain bandit. Nino offers to accompany him, but Legault says it is too dangerous for her, and that he cannot protect her like Linus and Lloyd did. Nino realizes she probably won't see Legault again after the journey and becomes sad.
