Debut Donkey Kong 64

Lanky Kong was one of the playable Kong characters introduced and featured in Donkey Kong 64. He is the oddball of the Kong family, and not even Cranky knows who he's related to. He resembles an orangutan and wears a clown nose.

Background[edit]

In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, Lanky made a cameo appearance as one of the Kongs who were being held hostage until saved by Dixie and Kiddy in one of Funky's missions.

Lanky Kong was later captured by K. Rool in Donkey Kong 64 and imprisoned in the Angry Aztec. He remained in this prison until the other Kongs found and saved him. Afterwards Lanky used his abilities to aid Donkey Kong in his quest to recover all of the Golden Bananas and thwart K. Rool. Like the other Kongs, Lanky had his own personal boss battle at one point against Pufftoss. Unlike the other boss battles, this was not a hand-to-hand boss battle, as Lanky drove a small motorboat in battle with the sea monster.

After being absent for several years, he reappeared as an unlockable racer in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, with his Kremling rival being Klump. He was unlocked by completing the Topaz Cup with a Kong character.

Abilities[edit]

Lanky's long arms are very flexible. He is deadly in combat and has a longer reach with his arms. The special abilities he learns from Cranky Kong's potions throughout the game are:

  • Orang Stand - With this move, Lanky can perform a handstand and walk around on his hands. This move is mostly used to climb steep slopes.
  • Baboon Balloon - Lanky can perform this move by standing on a pad with his face on it. In this move, Lanky's body temporarily inflates like a balloon, allowing him to float to out-of-reach areas.
  • Orang Sprint - This move can be activated by entering a barrel with Lanky's face on it, and it consumes Crystal Coconuts as it is being used. With this move Lanky will enter Orang Stand mode and run on his hands at superspeed.
