Heath is a playable unit in Fire Emblem and the first playable wyvern rider in the game.

Background

Heath was one of Bern's feared wyvern riders. He flew in a platoon under the command of Commander Vaida, whom he admired. Like Vaida, he genuinely sought the wellbeing and protection of the people of Bern. One day, another general made up claims of a rebellion in order to enhance his military career, and many innocent, unarmed peasants were slaughtered due to being accused of being associated with the rebellion. Vaida could not stand this injustice and led her riders in an attack on the other wyvern riders. Afterwards, Vaida's riders were condemned to death, but Vaida alerted them so that they could flee Bern. Most of his fellow riders died along the way.

Heath wound up in Lycia and tried making a living as a mercenary. He joined Eubans's group of mercenaries that served the marquess of Laus. He was first seen in "Talons Alight" (Hector Chapter 15), when he prepared an escape route for Sealen when Sealen was sent to attack Eliwood and Hector's troops. But Sealen had no plans to utilize the escape route and thought Heath was too soft to be a mercenary. In "Kinship's Bond" (Eliwood Chapter 21, Hector Chapter 22), Heath was sent to attack the castle where Eliwood and Hector's group were stationed. Eubans wanted to kill them all so that they could join the Black Fang in Bern, since Lord Darin had gone missing. Heath was against this due to the women and children among the group. If one of the lords or women of Eliwood's company talked to Heath, he surrendered and then joined up with Eliwood's group. He remained there for the rest of the journey.

Possible Fates

Heath has three possible endings, depending on whom he reaches A Rank Support with.

• Default Ending- Heath moved to Ilia and worked there as a mercenary knight. Instead of fighting for country, he fought for people in need.
• Priscilla and Heath's Ending- Heath and Priscilla had fallen in love during the conflict. However, their class differences were too great (with Heath being a deserter from Bern while Priscilla was a noble). Heath was forced to leave her and said his goodbyes to her, but he promised to return someday.
• Vaida and Heath's Ending- After Vaida returned to Bern to serve Prince Zephiel from the shadows, Heath followed her there to support her.

It should also be noted that in his final Support conversation with Kent, he considers joining the knights of Caelin.

Support Conversation Summaries

Heath is capable of having Support Conversations with five other characters.

• Kent- Heath, lost and without anyone to follow, meets with Kent and asks to join the Caelin knights. But first Kent asks Heath about why he had left Bern's knights, and found out that he was a fugitive from Bern with no love for his country anymore. After meeting Lyn, Heath decides to go ahead with his plan, glad to finally have a master that he can follow wholeheartedly.
• Legault- In the first conversation, Legault meets with Heath and notices that he is jumpy as if he is on the run from someone. Legault guesses he is a deserter from Bern's wyvern riders. Heath nearly flees after Legault mentions his association with the Black Fang, but Legault assures Heath he is no longer with them and simply wants to lighten his mood. In the second conversation, Heath and Legault talk, and Legault notes that Heath is a deserter and Legault a traitor, jokingly saying they were made for each other. In the third conversation, Heath asks Legault why he always hangs around near him. Legault says that one reason is that Heath, as a wyvern rider, would come in handy against any Black Fang assassins sent after him. Legault promises to help Heath stop people sent to arrest him from Bern in exchange. Heath thinks Legault is getting the short end of the stick, but Legault says that he likes Heath for sticking to his principles while on the run and being recklessly honest, and offers friendship between fugitives.
• Louise- Heath meets with Louise asks her why someone so young is on the battlefield, but Louise replies that she is old then she looks and is the wife of a lord. Heath then offers his services to her, but she rejects him, saying he is sworn to the service of another and is foolish for thinking that she needs protection just because she is a noblewoman. Heath says that he is a knight and must protect women and nobles whenever he can. Louise apologizes to Heath for what she had said, and says that they are both soldiers in Eliwood's army and thus are partners, so Heath wanting to give Louise special treatment would mean he didn't trust her. Heath assures Louise this is not the case. Louise then leaves when she hears Pent calling her, but she assures Heath that they are now friends and he can call her Louise instead of "milady".
• Priscilla- Heath meets Priscilla and introduces her to his wyvern. She finds that the wyvern is unwell, likely due to eating too much, and remembers hearing Merlinus mentioning that most of the group's supplies have gone missing. Connecting the two events, Heath asks Priscilla not to keep this a secret between them, and Priscilla agrees with this arrangement. In the second Support conversation, Heath tells Priscilla about what he learned in his own wyvern platoon about withstanding large amounts of pain in order to win battles, which Priscilla is frightened by. She asks Heath to come to see her now matter how minor his injuries seem to be, and he promises to stop by for check-ups. In the final Support conversation, Heath begins avoiding Priscilla after learning she is from a noble family, saying that they shouldn't even be speaking due to Heath's status as a fugitive from Bern. Priscilla begins crying and reminds Heath of his promise to her. Heath decides to stay by Priscilla's side even if only for this one battle, and both wish that time would stop for them.
• Vaida- Heath and Vaida are reunited, and Heath is glad to see her. He is surprised by her scar, but she tells him not to whine about it and that she got it from being weak. In the next conversation, Vaida scolds Heath and says that he has gotten too soft since he left her command. She asks Heath about the fates of her other riders, and Heath says that they have all died. Heath expresses doubt at Bern's future, but Vaida seems sure that Zephiel will restore Bern's prosperity upon becoming king. In the final conversation, they talk about the future. Heath does not know what he will do with his life, while Vaida is determined to return to Bern and help Zephiel, even at the cost of her life. Heath asks Vaida to take him with her and does not care if it is his end, saying that he is her soldier and will go where she goes.
