Hawkeye is a playable unit in Fire Emblem and the guardian of the Nabata Desert during that time period.

Background[edit]

Hawkeye was the guardian of the Nabata Desert and the last guardian to serve Athos. He was a large and powerful man, fierce in combat and not speaking often. One of Hawkeye's duties was protecting the hidden village of Arcadia. At one point he married and had a daughter, Igrene, who was destined to become the next guardian. However, Hawkeye was devoted to his duty and did not see her often. He also became friends with Lord Pent and his wife Louise.

In "Living Legend" (Eliwood Chapter 22, Hector Chapter 23 of Fire Emblem), Hawkeye appeared in the desert to assist Pent in driving off a group of bandits. He joined up with Eliwood's company in the battle if either Eliwood or Hector spoke with him. Afterwards, Athos assigned Hawkeye to accompany them and aid them in their quest. He also granted him a Heaven Seal to grant to Eliwood's group when the time was right. Hawkeye was unsure when this would be, so he passed it on to Pent in "Four-Fanged Offense" (Eliwood Chapter 23, Hector Chapter 24). Pent was uncertain about this, because he did not know if he and Louise would survive their mission to find the location of the Shrine of Seals in Bern. However, Hawkeye expressed his confidence in their abilities.

Hawkeye stayed in Eliwood's company for the remainder of the adventure. Afterwards, he returned to Arcadia and lived peacefully there with Igrene, whom he trained to be guardian of the desert. He presumably died sometime prior to Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi, as Igrene had succeeded him as guardian by that time.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

Hawkeye is capable of having Support conversations with three other characters. He can only reach A Rank with Ninian, as Pent and Louise are capable of only having as many as two Support conversations with other characters due to their already having A Rank Support with each other.

  • Louise- Louise is out of breath after catching up with Hawkeye and gives him a bow for Igrene. She thinks it must be boring for her to be alone at the village, but Hawkeye says that she has friends there. Louise reminds Hawkeye that she only has one father. Hawkeye later gives Louise a necklace that belonged to his wife and tells her to give it to Igrene if he died in battle. Hawkeye says that he feels his time is near and that Igrene must become comfortable with solitude if she is to succeed him as guardian. Hawkeye expresses he has no regrets for having served his master, married a wife, fathered a child and had friends such as Pent and Louise. However, Louise tells him he should return to the desert before then, let his destiny wait and let Igrene see her again.
  • Ninian- Hawkeye checks up on Ninian's well-being and ensures that her duties are not too much for her. He mentions the village and Nabata and tells Ninian that she looks like she could be a friend of his daughter's. In the next conversation, Hawkeye tells her more about the village and that humans and dragons live in peace there. Ninian is amazed by this and says she always dreamed of humans and dragons living together. In the third conversation, Ninian begins to admit that she is a dragon, but Hawkeye says he already knows, having been told by Athos. He tells her that many humans in the modern day still fear dragons, but humans can learn and change during their short lives. Hawkeye says he believed his master when he said that humans and dragons could live together, and Ninian says she believes him too.
  • Pent- In the first Support conversation, Pent observes Hawkeye's battle cry and notes Hawkeye's ferocity. In the second conversation, Hawkeye expresses concern about how mad with power magic-users seemed to get. Pent assures Hawkeye that he will not lose himself into the great dark force, but Hawkeye notes that magic and knowledge has been the end of many men, and could be the end of either of them.
