Geoffrey is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and its sequel, Radiant Dawn.

Background[edit]

Geoffrey and his sister Lucia were raised with Elincia, the princess of Crimea whose existence was kept secret, on the royal villa. The three played often in their shared childhood. Learning under the Royal Knight Commander Renning prior to his disappearance, Geoffrey grew to become a brave knight of Crimea in order to become a protector of Elincia and one of her retainers. He also had arguments with a fellow retainer, Bastian, who saw Geoffrey as being too blunt and stressful. Geoffrey had fallen in love with Elincia, but trouble came due to their different classes. They had been raised as if they were of the same social class, but with the events of Path of Radiance an obstacle was thrust into their relationship when Elincia publicly became princess, and Geoffrey was but a knight.

Path of Radiance[edit]

When Daein launched a sudden invasion of Crimea, Geoffrey was put in charge of the squad protecting Elincia. However, Elincia was separated from them during the battle, and Geoffrey feared the worse. Having survived the battle, Geoffrey and the other retainers went underground posing as merchants, using the cellar of Castle Delbray as their meeting place. New eventually came that Elincia was alive and coming with a Crimean Liberation Army to liberate Crimea. In "Chapter 24: Battle Preparations", Bastian met with Geoffrey at Castle Delbray to notify him that Elincia was on her way, and they prepared a celebration. But then Daein forces advanced towards the castle.

In order to protect Elincia, Geoffrey sent Bastian away to direct Elincia down an alternate route. He stayed behind with several soldiers to hold off the Daein forces for as long as he could, intent on giving up his life for the princess. But to his dismay, the Crimean Liberation Army arrived and helped to fight off the Daein forces. Afterwards, Geoffrey learned that Elincia did not want any more people to die for her, and he apologized while saying he did not intend to sacrifice her feelings for the sake of Crimea since he saw then that Crimea and Elincia now existed as one. Afterwards, the three retainers rededicated their vows to serving Elincia and helping to reclaim Crimea. Geoffrey then began fighting in the Crimean Liberation Army.

In the final chapter, Geoffrey helped to persuade Elincia to delivering a speech to the Crimean troops prior to the final battle with Ashnard's troops. After the war ended, Geoffrey expressed that he was glad that Crimea had passed through its dark age and endeavored to give their all to restore Crimea and its people.

Radiant Dawn[edit]

In the following three years, Geoffrey became the new commander of Crimea's Royal Knights. He and Lucia attended many of Elincia's meetings with nobles after she became queen, but he and Lucia were often criticized by the nobles for their close personal connections with the queen (especially Geoffrey, as the populace seemed to suspect his feelings for Elincia). Geoffrey was first seen in "Chapter 2: Tides of Intrigue" of "Part 2: Of Countries and Kings". After hearing word of Lord Ludveck's plans for rebellion, Geoffrey immediately wanted to storm his manor, but Elincia first sent Lucia out to find proof.

After Lucia found proof and Ludveck declared his rebellion, Geoffrey lead the Royal Knights to siege Ludveck's manor in "Chapter 3: Geoffrey's Charge". They won the battle but not the war, as the manor only contained decoy forces that distracted the Royal Knights while Ludveck and the rest of his rebel forces moved towards Elincia's hiding place in Fort Alpea. Geoffrey and the Royal Knights rushed to Alpea as fast as they could, arriving late into "Endgame: Elincia's Gambit". Together Elincia and Geoffrey were able to thwart Ludveck. Lucia was nearly executed by the remaining rebels, and Geoffrey urged Elincia to fulfill her demands to save Lucia, but Elincia ultimately realized that the fate of her country was more important than saving Lucia. Luckily the Greil Mercenaries were able to save Lucia.

Geoffrey was sent into action again in "Chapter 9: Marauders" of "Part 3: Intersecting Vows" to stop the Begnion forces who were ravaging Crimean villages. He then helped to protect Elincia in "Chapter 10: The Heart of Crimea" after she had tossed down her sword as a sign of neutrality in the Laguz-Begnion war. He then sent his Royal Knights to accompany the Laguz Alliance Army, but he and Elincia remained in Crimea. After Elincia traveled to Daein in an attempt to put an end to the war, Geoffrey remained behind to take care of the castle. He was among those who were not turned to stone by Ashera at the end of "Endgame: From Pain, Awakening".

With no one left in Crimea to protect, Geoffrey set out (with Largo and Calill's daughter, Amy, who was also spared from the petrification) to find Elincia. He was eventually reunited with Bastian and helped him to keep the brainwashed Renning and Izuka under control. They were reunited with Elincia and the Hawk Army in "Chapter 5: Unforgivable Sin". At that time Izuka escaped and they set out to subdue him. Despite Izuka's death, Reyson was able to restore Renning's sanity with the galdr of rebirth. Renning fully recovered by "Final Chapter: Rebirth", at which time he engaged Geoffrey in a playful sparring match to see who was more worthy of being commander in the chapter's base conversation.

After the war, Geoffrey remained captain of the Royal Knights and served Elincia and Crimea for all of his days as a model of chivalry. If he had an A Support with Elincia, the two were also married, and all of Crimea supported their marriage due to Geoffrey's chivalrous nature and his loyalty to the queen.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

In Path of Radiance, Geoffrey is capable of having Support conversations with two other characters.

  • Calill- In the first conversation, Calill bumps into Geoffrey and is at first distressed until she realizes that her face is still intact. After introducing herself to Geoffrey, she realizes that love comes when you least expect it and dedicates herself to pursuing a relationship with him. In the second conversation, she gives gratuitous comments to Geoffrey and asks about Elincia, saying she should know her potential romantic rival. Geoffrey, mostly oblivious to Calill's intentions, describes Elincia as being perfect, at which point Calill becomes angry and decides to abandon a relationship with him, but at the same time vows to help him get with Elincia. In the third conversation, Geoffrey tells Calill about her past with Elincia and how they had been raised as equals, but now that she was publicly the princess, they were of two different classes and the romance could not work. Calill tells him he should stop living in the past and to seize whatever happiness he has in the present while keeping up hope for the future. Geoffrey surmises that he will be content with helping to rebuild Crimea and then watching Elincia's happiness from a distance. Geoffrey thanks Calill for her help, and she says that they have become good friends so he could expose his heart to her without fear, and she would stand by him until the end.
  • Elincia- In the first conversation, Elincia asks Geoffrey to leave her alone when she fights on the battlefield and ignores his objections, saying it is a direct order. In the second conversation, Geoffrey pleads with her to reconsider, but she only threatened to strip him of his knighthood if it would convince him to stop defending her. Geoffrey is hurt, saying that he did not think Elincia wanted to ignore him this badly, and leaves even though Elincia attempts to call him back and explain. In the third conversation, Elincia explains that she restricted Geoffrey from defending her because he took too many risks in battle and thus broke the oath he made not to jeopardize his life while protecting her. He tells Elincia how much of an impact she had on her soldiers and has inspired them to victory by entering battle himself. He admits his own recklessness but says he did so because if he died then he would at least die near Elincia. He could not fight without her anymore. Elincia apologizes for being immature and tormenting him so, but Geoffrey in turn apologizes for disobeying his oath. Elincia asks Geoffrey to never leave his side, and he replies that his life and blade are hers.

Geoffrey also has inbuilt Support bonuses with Kieran, Lucia and Bastian (which boosts his chance of delivering a critical hit when either of them is nearby, and vice-versa), an extra bonus with Kieran (which protects Kieran from enemy critical hits when Geoffrey is nearby) and one with Elincia (which protects Geoffrey from enemy critical hits when Elincia is nearby).

In Radiant Dawn, Geoffrey has automatic Bond Supports with Lucia, Kieran, Bastian and Elincia.
