His loyalties are questionable, but his honor is obvious. Meta Knight has been a major player in the Kirby series since his first appearance in Kirby's Adventure. This mysterious swordmaster was presented a piece of the Star Rod by King Dedede and told to protect it at all costs. Meta Knight instead helped Kirby collect the Star Rod pieces and led him to a duel in the Orange Ocean, providing him with a sword to make it a fair match. Why Meta Knight aided Kirby is unknown, though he may have sensed that the young puff ball would be able to destroy the Nightmare seeking the Star Rod's power.

Since then, Meta Knight has appeared frequently throughout the Kirby games and is the third most consistently appearing character of the series. He has gathered a legion of Meta Soldiers and his own battleship, the Halberd, to serve his goals, whether those are protecting the people of Dream Land from Dark Matter and other evils or conquering the country to cure the people of their lazy streaks. Meta Knight was one of the first new characters revealed to be playable in Super Smash Bros. Brawl where he employs his sword Galaxia for quick and powerful strikes.
