Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is the ninth game in the Fire Emblem series and the third game to be released outside Japan. It is also known as the first 3-D Fire Emblem game.

Story[edit]

The game is sent in Tellius, which is inhabited by two tribes- the beorc (which are basically normal humans) and the laguz (which are human-animal hybrids). There is an uneasy peace between the races, which are separated by prejudice. The main character is Ike, a young boy whose father Greil has finally allowed him to join his band of mercenaries. But an invasion from outsiders forces Ike and the mercenaries on the move. Ike must take control of the mercenaries and save Tellius from this evil.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay is actually similar to the previous 2-D games. The player is put in control of various soldiers on a battlefield, and move the soldiers to take on enemies like players on a chessboard. New changes include 3-D graphics and detailed cutscenes complete with voice-acting. Other changes include the addition of the laguz, which can turn into animals to attack opponents. There is also a new weapon-forging system, and class promotion automatically occurs whenever a character reaches Level 21, without the use of special items.

Legacy[edit]

The main character, Ike, would go on to be playable in the Super Smash Bros. series starting in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Sequels[edit]

A direct sequel, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, was released for the Nintendo Wii.
