Cranidos is a thick-skulled dinosaur-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It can be revived from a Skull Fossil, and it evolves into Rampardos.

Information[edit]

Cranidos was a Pokémon that lived in jungles around one million years ago. It has a skull as hard as iron, and it uses headbutts to down its prey and snap obstructing trees. They also headbutt each other to strengthen each other's heads. Cranidos could only be resurrected in the modern day from the Skull Fossil, which resembles an iron ball.

It evolves into Rampardos at Level 30.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Diamond Version, Skull Fossils could be mined in the Underground. In Platinum, Skull Fossils appeared in the Underground as opposed to the Armor Fossil only if the player's trainer ID number ended with an odd number. In both versions, Skull Fossils could be revived at the Oreburgh Museum.

In Black and White, the player could receive the Skull Fossil or any of first four generations' fossils at random from a worker at Twist Mountain on a daily basis. This fossil could be revived at the Nacrene City Museum.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Cranidos could be recruited on the fifth through ninth basement floors of Crystal Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia', it was found at Vien Forest. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Rasp Cavern and the Thunder Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Fiery Furnace. Cranidos also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Cavern Zone as well as at the Meeting Place.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Cranidos was featured as Roark's main Pokémon in several episodes. The Cranidos had been restored from a fossil that Roark had discovered as a child and was the first fossil revived by Oreburh's scientists. It helped Roark to defeat Ash in their first match and evolved into Rampardos while fighting Team Rocket prior to Ash's victorious rematch against Roark.
  • In Pokémon Adventures, Cranidos was shown as one of Roark's Pokémon during the Diamond/Pearl arc. He had raised it from an egg and used it in battle against Platina. It knew Shock Wave in order to counter its weakness against water, but Platina's Piplup was still able to beat it by confusing it into attacking itself using Water Pulse. It evolved into a Rampardos before Roark's next appearance at Canalave City.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "cranium" (referring to its head) with "dos" (a suffix used for dinosaur names).
