Clamperl is a clam-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generations games. It is known for its branching evolutionary line, as it can evolve into either Huntail or Gorebyss.

Information[edit]

Clamperl had a sturdy shell, rock-hard shell that protects it while it grows, and it also useful for clamping and catching prey. A full-grown Clamperl has a shell that is nicked and scratched in various areas. They develop a single, magnificent pearl throughout their lives, and it is believed that this pearl could amplify psychic energy. When Clamperl is getting too big for its shell, it is a sign that it is close to evolution.

Clamperl evolves when traded to another player while holding a certain item, and the item decides its next form. It becomes Huntail with a Deepseatooth or Gorebyss with a Deepseascale.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Clamperl were commonly found along the seafloor at Routes 124 and 126, which were only accessible when diving. In Diamond and Pearl, they were rarely found when fishing with the Super Rod at Routes 219 and 221. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they could appear at Route 19 during swarms and were found by surfing. In Black and White, they could be commonly fished at Route 4.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Hoenn series featured a Clamperl that was being researched regarding its pearls, and a Spoink took a Clamperl pearl that it had confused for its own. The Pokémon were able to make peace by the end of the episode. One later episode also featured a trio of islands where trainers competed to prove which of Clamperl's evolutions was superior.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Clamperl was shown as part of Wallace's team during a flashback in the Ruby/Sapphire arc and was notably the last Pokémon he used to win his championship battle.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is simply made from a combination of "clam" and "pearl".
