Castform is a weather-related Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line, but it has different forms depending on the weather,

Information[edit]

Castform was apparently created by the researchers at Hoenn's Weather Institute. It can alter its appearance depending on the weather by changing its cells and taking different forms based on temperature and humidity. Castform's feelings also change with the weather. It is said that this is a defense due to Castform's tiny body. Castform's molecules were also recently discovered to be like water.

It has a total of three different alternate forms, which are compared to the sun, rain clouds and snow clouds. Exposure to strong sunlight (such as from a Sunny Day) attack makes it the Sun form, which is a Fire-type. During rainfall, it becomes the Water-type rain form. Additionally, Castform becomes the snowy Ice-type form when it is either hailing or snowing. Castform revert to their normal forms during all other weather conditions.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, a Castform are kept at the Weather Institute at Route 118, and one is given to the player as a reward for defeating Team Magma (in Ruby) or Team Aqua (in Sapphire and Emerald). In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, it was among the Pokémon that could be randomly placed in the Trophy Garden on a daily basis. It could also be caught through the Pokéwalker at the Treehouse course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it was found at the Plains. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Huge Storage 5 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the twentieth through twenty-ninth floors of Mt. Faraway. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Fall City. It was also recruitable in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness at Blizzard Island and Shimmer Hill.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Castform was featured in an episode of the Hoenn series set at the Weather Institute. They have also made other minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Castform was featured in the Ruby/Sapphire arc. It originally belonged to Mr. Stone, but it wound up traveling with the news reporters Gabby and Ty. They used the Castform to break up Ruby's fight with Norman at the Weather Institute, and because it was lonely they passed the Castform on to Ruby. It has remained part of Ruby's team since and was used for Smart contests.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "forecast" (due to its relation to the weather) with "form" (since it can change form).
