Carnivine is a carnivorous plant-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It lacks and evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Carnivine usually use their tentacles to hang from branches and pose as normal plants while awaiting prey with their mouths wide open. A Carnivine attracts prey with its sweet-smelling saliva and then chomps down on it. It usually takes a whole day for it to eat prey. They walk around on their tentacles in search of good tree branches, and they usually bind themselves to tree located in marshes.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, Carninvine could appear within the Great Marsh. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they could appear uncommonly at Ilex Forest and Viridian Forest when Sinnoh Sound was playing over the radio. It could also be caught at the Marshland and Desert areas of the Safari Zone when enough Forest or Plains objects were present.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Carnivine could be recruited at the seventh through fifteenth floors of the Northern Desert and the Final Maze. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Chroma Highlands. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Sophian Road, the Forest Temple and the Odd Temple. Carnivine also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at the Silent Forest.

Other Appearances[edit]

In Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Carnivine was featured in the Sinnoh series as the main Pokémon of James of Team Rocket. It was shown that he had caught the Carnivine at the Great Marsh as a child, and he found its Pokémon in an old vacationing home early in the Sinnoh series. It continued the running gag of grass Pokémon hurting James while showing affection to him, as Carnivine often wrapped him in tight hugs. Jessie also used the Carnivine for various Pokémon Contests while disguised as Jessilina, often progressing fairly far in the contests, and there was one episode in which she actually defeated Dawn and won a contest using Carnivine. Carnivine was among the Pokémon left behind at Team Rocket's headquarters when they moved on to Unova.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Carnivine appeared during the Diamond/Pearl arc where it tried to eat Diamond and Pearl's Munchlax and Chatot when they found it at the Great Marsh, but Munchlax was able to save them by holding Carnivine's mouth open.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "carnivore" and "vine".
