Cacturne is a tall cactus-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the evolved form of Cacnea.

Information[edit]

Cacturne evolves from Cacnea at Level 32. It has cactus-like properties that are similar to its previous form. Cacturne have lives in deserts for thousands of years, which has caused their blood to transform into the same substances as sand. Cacturne is a nocturnal Pokémon that only becomes active at night, when the temperature drops. It remains unmoving in the daytime to prevent itself from losing any moisture to the harsh desert sun. At night, Cacturne will hunt down prey that have been exhausted by the sun and become unable to move. Groups of them have been known to follow travelers in ragtag groups and bide their time until the travelers become immobile.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Cacturne could normally be obtained only by evolving a Cacnea. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could be found somewhat commonly at Route 228 and was more common at night. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear in the Safari Zone's Savannah (with enough forest objects) or Desert (with enough water objects) areas.

Other Games[edit]

Cacturne could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 2, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at the ninth through fifteenth floors of Northern Desert. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at the Haruba Desert.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Cacturne appeared as the primary Pokémon of Harley during his appearances in the Hoenn and Battle Frontier series. He lent it to Jessie of Team Rocket in one episode, and their ensuing bond led Harley to believe that it was because he and she were soulmates.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Cacturne was shown as one of Wally's Pokémon during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "cactus" with "nocturne" due to its nocturnal nature and Dark type.
