Cackletta is an evil witch who acted as the main villain of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Her main henchman was the eccentric Fawful.

Background

Like every good maniacal villain, Cackletta has one goal: to rule the world. To this end, Cackletta decided that she would awaken the Beanstar of Beanbean Kingdom.

To do so, Cackletta impersonated a goodwill ambassador and made her way to the Mushroom Kingdom, where she was able to steal Peach's voice. Furthermore, she turned Prince Peasley into the Dragohoho, forced Queen Bean to eat a Belly Blech worm, and had Fawful attack the Koopa Kruiser as Mario, Luigi, and Bowser approached to reclaim Peach's voice. She even managed to trick Mario and Luigi into freeing the Beanstar when they arrived at Beanbean Castle, by disguising herself as Lady Lima and demanding that they fix the plumbing. With all this accomplished, she snagged the Beanstar and made off to Woohoo Hooniversity to awaken it with a trio of Peach-bots.

All of this would have gone off perfectly, except for one small problem. Queen Bean and Prince Peasley predicted her scheme and had secretly switched Peach with Birdo during Cackletta's visit to the Mushroom Kingdom. Birdo's sour voice turned the Beanstar violent, and it escaped. Before Cackletta could react, the Mario Bros. arrived and finished her off in a big battle. Before final breaths could be spent, however, Fawful came to Cackletta's rescue and stored her essence in his headgear, then later transferred it into Bowser, turning them into Bowletta.

As Bowletta, she stole some of Bowser's equipment (the Koopa Clown Car and the Koopa Kruiser, for example), kidnapped Peach again, and demanded that the Mario Bros. bring the Beanstar to her at Joke's End if they wanted Peach back safely. The Mario Bros. tried to pull a switcheroo, but Fawful caught them and took the real Beanstar anyway. They pulled another switcheroo, then, and succeeded to get Peach back, while Luigi sneaked onto the Koopa Kruiser wearing Peach's dress and took the Beanstar back. In retaliation, Bowletta flew to the Mushroom Kingdom and got Bowser's Castle, then used it to attack Beanbean Castle Town.

The Mario Bros. confronted Bowletta in Bowser's Castle and were sucked inside of her, where they had to finish off Cackletta's essence once and for all. In doing so, Cackletta was gone for good, and the Beanbean Kingdom and Peach were safe, while Bowser was restored to normal.

Trivia

• Cackletta is one of few Mario villains that you fight mid-way through the game instead of at the end.
• Cackletta is also one of few Mario villains to actually die.
• Her Japanese name is Geragemoona. This, like Fawful's Japanese name, is a play on "geragera", which is Japanese onomatopoeia for a type of derisive laughter.
• Cackletta has 200 HP in the first battle, and 300 HP as Bowletta. Cackletta's essence has 1200 HP.
