Blissey is a compassionate Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It was introduced as the new evolved form for the first generation Pokémon Chansey. Starting in the fourth generation, Blissey also acts as the third and final form in the evolutionary line of Happiny, Chansey's baby form.

Information[edit]

Blissey evolves from Chansey when it levels up with a high amount of happiness. It has a very compassionate nature and will heal any sick Pokémon that it finds back to health. Their fluffy coats apparently can sense sadness, and upon detecting any amount of sadness, Blissey will rush over across any distance to share its egg. Taking just one bite from Blissey's egg will apparently fill someone with joy and make them caring towards all.

Both Blissey and Chansey can only have an egg containing a Happiny instead of a Chansey if the parent is holding Luck Incense.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Blissey has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Chansey.

Other Games[edit]

A Blissey from the second generation games could be used in the "Egg Emergency" minigame in Pokémon Stadium 2 alongside Chansey in which they competed to catch eggs. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 17, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be recruited at Marine Resort, Happy Outlook and The Nightmare. Blissey also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Old Mansion and the Light Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Johto series focused on a Blissey at a Pokémon Center that Jessie of Team Rocket had befriended the Blissey at Nursing School. They were reunited in the episode, and Blissey helped Team Rocket by bringing them food, only to get in trouble with Nurse Joy. Jessie wound up staging a Team Rocket attack in order to protect Blissey's reputation. Blissey have since made only a few appearances at Pokémon Centers, with Chansey being more predominant.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Blissey did not appear until the Emerald arc, where it was one of the Pokémon which Crystal lent to Emerald for the Battle Pike challenge, and its Softboiled ability wound up playing a key role in Emerald's strategy. Blissey also appeared as one of Cheryl's Pokémon in the Platinum arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on "bliss" using the same ending as Chansey.
