Bantu is a playable unit appearing in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Monshou no Nazo and Shadow Dragon. He is the first playable Manakete in the game (and in the series as a whole).

Background[edit]

Bantu once was a servant of the Divine Dragon King Naga. He was actually a fire dragon and sealed his form within a dragonstone to become a Manakete, with his human form being that of an elderly man in a red cloak. Following Naga's death, Bantu was assigned to watch over the late king's newly born daughter Tiki, who was put into an echanted slumber in order to prevent her from degenerating and becoming a wild dragon. However, Bantu took pity on her condition after watching over her for several centuries and eventually awakened her, then took her to a human village where they lived peacefully and happily for the time being.

Book One[edit]

One day, that peace was disrupted by Gharnef, who snatched Tiki away. Bantu had lost his dragonstone at Pyrathi and was powerless from the time being. In Chapter 7 (6 SNES), Marth and his allies found him in a village at the Lefcandith Valley, at which point he joined Marth's ranks in order to find Tiki and also help in the effort against Medeus. His dragonstone was eventually recovered during the journey. After the war ended, he sealed his dragonstone and left for parts unknown, but it is implied that he had dreamed of living in Dolhr's countryside. Tiki came with him, and they lived peacefully for the time.

Book Two[edit]

Tiki was later sent to the Ice Dragons' Temple to be put into a sleep until the Shield of Seals could be completed. Bantu had lost his dragonstone again after it was stolen by thieves. In Chapter 8 he joined with Marth's army again in order to help with the latest crisis and retrieve his dragonstone (which had been found by Marth's enemy in the previous chapter). At the end of this war, he discarded his dragonstone and left for whereabouts unknown.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Shadow Dragon, he receives Support Bonuses from Tiki and Nagi.
