Archen is an ancient bird-like fossil Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. Its evolved form is Archeops.

Information[edit]

Archen is classified as the First Bird Pokémon, as it is believed to be the ancestor of all bird Pokémon. Despite this, they were originally flightless birds. Archen usually moved around by jumping from one branch to another.

Although they are an extinct species, Archen can be revived from Plume Fossils. It also evolves into Archeops at Level 37.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, the player can choose to receive either a recently found Plume or Cover Fossil from an archeologist by the entrance to Relic Castle. If the Plume Fossil is chosen, it can be revived as an Archen by the receptionist at Nacrene City Museum.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Archen was found at the treetops of Sun-Dappled Bank and World Axle's second basement floor.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Archen was featured in an episode of the Unova series in which Professor Juniper and Fennel revived one from a Plume Fossil. It proved to be difficult and rejected modern Pokémon food, but it also bonded with Ash's Tranquill when he tried teaching it to fly. The Archen later cried, with its tears making seeds that were on it grow into vines to cover the lab. While trying to reach the fruit on the vines, it evolved into Archeops and learned to fly.

Trivia[edit]

  • Archen is based on Archaeopteryx, the earliest bird to have been found. Its name also seems to be a combination of this with "hen" due to it being small and flightless.
