Chapter 24:
Her Again.
~Masamune~
Wario and Waluigi had stopped just above at the end
of the stairs. Ahead of them was a large wooden door,
with a small barred area high out of reach. The others
were soon gathered behind them. Wario quieted them and
pressed his ear to the door. Faint sound of whispering
could be heard from the other side.
"Someone's in there..." Wario mumbled,
"Two or three, I beleive..."
Mario nudged the much larger Wario out of the way to
listen. "Sure is... we better find out who."
"Can't very well barge in" Geno noted,
"Or..." He looked down at Jinx, whom was
consumed in thought, "Perhaps we can."
"I understand..." Jinx nodded, "My
size can come in handy for eavesdropping."
Scaling the door easily, he entered through the slim
bar space and fell to the ground gracefully. Running
quietly, yet at full speed he arrived at the corner.
Looking over he spied three magikoopas involved in
conversation. However, to make things odd enough. While
one was in normal blue atire, two were in yellow and
black clothes respectively.
"Curse those mushrooms! Our pay will be cut
because of those meddling fools!" The black one
growled.
"Yes, that whatshisname 'Tode' ruined it all.
How did he control those wands!?" The yellow one
replied.
"And I thought I had troubles with the 8-bits
and that yoshi..." The blue one replied, "If
Kamek were to find out..."
"Bah!" The yellow one retorted, "Having
Princess err... 'Dazie' as a backup... we will have those
wands back in our hands in no time!"
"Hmm... that Mario will probally be arriving
from Nimbus soon" The black one observed, "We
got the scrolls we needed, we had better depart."
Jinx turned away and went through the door back to
the others and retold everything he heard about the
mushrooms first.
"Thanks goodness..." Peach said, releived
to know that Toad and the other mushrooms were alive.
"What are these 'wands' they were talking about?"
Mallow asked, interrupting Peach.
"I know of them..." Geno mumbled, "Long
ago, three powers fought for control for the planet. The
mushroom mages, koopas... and the stars. The war
devestated the land, so a pact was made. They agreed to
make a symbol of alliance... ten wands. The mushroom
mages cast a spell over wands made by the koopas. The
stars sealed the spell, for each wand a element was given.
The star ascended to the heavens to watch over the
people, while the koopas and mushroom people seperated.
The wands fell to the koopa's possesion, but over time
were lost... During this time, the mushroom mages power
had dwindled after being sacrificed for the wands. Which
soon were inherited by the already powerful koopas. Thus
Magikoopas came into existence..."
"Wow..." Yoshi said in astonishment, "That's
some story. But they showed up now?"
"Yes... and apparently Toad can use them."
Geno said, a certain uneasiness dripping in his voice.
Jinx decided to tell them the rest of what he had
heard about Daisy.
"Daisy!? Kidnapped!?" Luigi exclaimed,
"This is all my fault... If I hadn't been so quick
to leave on a adventure..."
His mind began to wonder as to how it happened...
Daisy sighed, Luigi and Yoshi had been gone for a
long time. They had visited the Yoshi Village to gather
some fruit for their picnic. But they never returned, she
wondered why. While lost in though, a loud noise was
heard. Suddenly a large plot of land was surrounded by a
wall of light. She started to head towards it, halfway
from arriving it vanished.
In confusion she pressed forward, intent on
finding Luigi and Yoshi. A shrill peirced the air, as a
small object streakred across the sky. It then came
closer, she could make out blue clothes riding on a
wooden stick... a broom. It landed in front of her,
behind it's spectacles she could make out the hideous
face of a koopa.
She turned to run, but it took off and grabbed her
in mid-run. Lifting her high in the sky. She struggled to
get free, but was met with a spell of paralysis. Having
no control of her body, she was heaped on the back of the
broom as the magikoopa flew off into the sky.
When she woke, the sound of rain and thunder rang
in her ears. She found herself in a damp, ill-kept
dungeon. Not the typical dungeon Tatanga had kept her in,
or even the one she knew Bowser used. It was a cryptic
setting, bones lying across the ground. Rats lined the
ground... rats... With a shreik she jumped on top of the
bench and glared at the vile creatures. While the rain
poured outside, she made a silent wish to the stars her
stay would be short... very short.
~Lzn64~
Toad blinked at
the mushroom ghost procession as it passed, and couldn't
help but smile. Perhaps they were sad, but knowing that
their friends were not lost forever certainly made the
living mushrooms quite happy. Families were reunited,
friends gave each other high fives (never mind that their
hands passed right through) and the morale of the entire
company was increased noticably. Toad turned back to
Timier, a question he had long been wondering the answer
to popping to mind.
"Hey,
Timier, do you know where we are?" He asked
hopefully.
"Yes. But
you're not going to like it...you're in Dark Land."
"Dark Land...?
I never expected Dark Land to have, well, forests and
such," Toad said incredulously, gesturing at the
foliage around them.
"Yes.
You're on the outer fringe of Dark Land, not too far in
yet. Our bodies, however, lie in the Tower of the
Magikoopas, in the very heart of the place."
The mushrooms
exchanged apprehensive glances. They all knew that they
would be going in, and they all knew that the only non-koopas
that had made it in and out of Dark Land alive were
Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. They shuffled their
feet nervously, eyes fixed on Toad and Tempier.
"Don't
worry," Toad said softly. "We'll help you guys
get back to the land of the living..."
"Of course
we will," Ten said optimistically. He had only known
these mushrooms for a brief period of time, but had
already developed a strong kinship with them.
"Besides,"
Toad declared, tightening his grip on Kichra,
"With this baby around, how can I lose?"
"Er...you
can't, Toad." Ten's worry for his friend surged up
again, but he quashed it for the moment. Now they had to
worry about other things.
"Thanks for
your support," Temier said gratefully, obviously
relieved. "To get into Dark Land, we must cross the
Noko Noko Mountains. You'll have, heh, a bit more trouble
than us doing that, since you're stuck on the ground, but
don't worry, you'll make it. Follow me."
"Sure, lead
the way."
"You should
know that the Tower is a very dangerous place... it's
crawling with magikoopas."
"We dealt
with the Necrokoopa and Sparkoopa, didn't we?"
"Ugh...
don't remind me!"
"Sorry..."
"But you
misunderstand. Kamek himself, along with his sister
Kammy, reside in that Tower, and they're much more
powerful than the two you mentioned. They'll destroy you
in an instant, if you let them..."
"I've never
met them personally," Toad mused. "Just heard
stories from Mario and Luigi."
"I
certainly hope you don't meet them..." Temier
replied quietly.
Toad nodded and
started after the ghostly mushroom, Ten close by. The
forest soon collided with the face of a black, steep
slope that could only be the face of the Noko Noko
Mountain Range. Ten looked up wearily, he couldn't see
the top from where he was. The ghost mushrooms floated
easily up, but the land-dwellers had a slightly more
difficult time. The mountain was slippery, and hard to
navigate. They climbed for what seemed like forever, each
knowing that they were headed to.
"Heh,
c'mon, Toad, you're almost there," Temier called,
floating just ahead.
"Easy for
you to say..." Toad gasped. He nearly fell then, and
grabbed Ten for leverage, which almost resulted in them
both tumbling down the slope.
"Hey! Watch
it!" Ten yelled, latching on to a rock for support.
Temier laughed at them heartilly, and made a face in
response to the glares he received.
"Just up
here," He said reassuringly. "This is the top,
boys."
Ten felt his
stomach tie up in knots. He had heard numerous rumors
about Dark Land's rivers of lava, and whispers that the
sulfur layer was so thick that only koopas could survive
inside. He swallowed his fear, though, and continued
climbing.
Toad reached the
top first, and was speechless at what he saw. The thick
layer of smoke that served to blot out the sun, hence the
name "Dark Land," belched from a gargantuan
volcano in the center of the valley. The Noko Noko
Mountains surrounded the entire area, and from the top
one could see the full expanse of the Koopa's home turf.
The awe-inspiring sight of Bowser's Castle sat just at
the base of the volcano, which seemed to continually leak
lava, and was surrounded by its own molten moat. Their
destination, the Tower of the Magikoopas, stood not from
that, eerily resembling an outstretched hand raking the
surface of the sky.
Needless to say,
Toad was just a little bit less optimistic....
----------
Meanwhile
----------
Kamek stood in
the topmost room of the Tower, looking quite annoyed. His
sister Kammy was hunched not far off, facing him with a
defiant look in her eyes. They were obviously arguing.
"YOU go get
her, you lazy bum," Kammy yelled, placing her claws
on her hips.
"Hey, I
gave you an order, little missy-"
"DON'T CALL
ME THAT!" Kammy screeched, causing Kamek to wince.
"- and when
I give you an order, I expect it to be followed!"
"Shells on
your order! Everyone knows King Bowser likes me the best,
anyhow."
"Hmph. I'm
his most loyal and powerful magikoopa, in case you forgot..."
"And you're
also the ugliest. I have style."
"Now I know
where Wendy got it from..." Kamek muttered, shaking
his head. "Go and get that prisoner, Kammy, before I
am forced to punish you for insubordinance to an elder..."
"Hah! Take
you're best shot!"
"You asked
for-" Kamek began, but froze suddenly and looked
toward the western window of the tower.
"What? What
is it?"
"Someone
has breached the border of Dark Land..." Kamek
growled, knitting his eyebrows together.
"What?
Well, let's go get them, then."
"Right. Go
and get that girl, and then we'll go."
Kammy muttered
to herself, but her curiosity got the better of her. She
grumbled all the way down to the dungeons, and waved the
two guards there away nonchalantly. They shied aawy from
her, knowing that she was not exactly the nicest koopa on
the block. Kammy plodded to one of the many cells and
peered her face inside, squinting in the darkness.
"You in
there, girl?" She called, mentally cursing her
eyesight.
Princess Daisy
looked up, startled. She spotted the form of a short
koopa at the bars, and sent a venom-filled look that way.
"Yes. And
I'd like to know why!"
"You'll
find out soon enough..." Kammy cackled.
"Where are
my friends?"
"Oh, yeah.
Speaking of them... let's go and, er, meet them."
"What are
you talking about?"
"Stop
asking questions," Kammy snapped irritably, as she
attemted to concentrate on casting a spell.
"Why?"
Daisy replied defiantly. Kammy finished the spell she had
been working on, and cast it with a rush of wind and a
flash of light. Daisy gasped as her joints locked up,
freezing her in place.
"Hmph. Look
where your mouth has gotten you now," Kammy sneered.
She motioned to the two nearby guards to pick the
princess up and take her upstairs. The four reached the
top room with few problems, except for Daisy's angry
shouting, where Kamek was waiting on his broom.
"Took you
long enough," Kamek complained in a dissaproving
tone.
"Quiet, you.
Let's go. I want to see who our invaders are."
"Where are
you taking me, you creeps?" Daisy called angrily, as
she was sat on the back of Kamek's broom.
"First,
we're going to see who dares invade the home of the
koopas. Second, we're going to go stop your friends from
meddling with Bowser's plans."
"Sounds
like you're underestimating them, to me," Daisy
muttered.
"Not at all.
You see, when they see you, either they will give up-"
"Not likely."
"-or they
will be so startled that we will defeat them easily.
Don't interrupt me. I have a feeling that Necro will have
a lot of fun with them, when we're finished with them..."
"Necro?"
Daisy asked curiously. She wasn't worried about her
friends in the least. There was no way, after all, that
these two goons would be able to defeat Luigi and Mario.
"Stop
asking questions," Kammy reproved her. Kamek took
off, then, toward the unknowing mushrooms, Kammy close
behind.
~Lzn64~
"I can't stand this..." One of the
mushrooms groaned, Toad looked over and recognized her.
It had been the young girl who had always been supportive
of him, the one who had lured the Bloop and saved him.
Her name was Truffle, or so Rinaz had told him when he
asked.
"What do you mean?" The eldest mushroom
asked.
"I feel like we're being watched..." Truffle
replied nervously.
"That's not likely." Another mushroom
interrupted, "It is far more likely their guard
would be down as they would focus on the problem of Mario
and the others."
"Perhaps..." Ten reasoned, "But it is
likely they would be keeping an eye around. After all,
the Magikoopas did return to this spot."
Toad looked back at the four who had been discussing,
he hesitated to interrupt. He could see mass fear or a
fight resulting from this conversation. Before, when they
had been stuck on the raft this would have been a little
problem. But now, with the burden of lost lives and the
wands, it seemed impossible. Yet there had to be
something to do, for if they were to be overcome with
dread, the koopas could slaughter them. Finally he
ovcercame his anxiety and spoke up.
"We are almost there, we cannot give up yet.
Timier and the others are depending on us, if they are
not brought back by sunset..." Toad trailed off,
knowing everyone knew the after-effect, forever losing
connection to their bodies. They all nodded in agreement
and pressed on, while the two magikoopa sibling loomed
overhead.
Daisy was now able to make them out, they were not
the Mario brothers she had anticipated. Not at all, it
was merely a group of mushroom peasants. They had been
the cause of all this? Forcing her mistreatment by those
koopa villains for a ragtag group of mushrooms. She
almost winced at the thought of them barging in and
grabbing her. True she wanted out, but Peach had far more
daring rescues than that. Was this all that she would
get, did none of them even care she had been caught?
Kamek as well was consumed with thought, mere
mushrooms had dared to oppose him. Then he spotted the
wands, being carried by one of the more medium-sized
mushrooms in front. The Necrokoopa and Sparkoopa had fled
over that? Kammy and him had entrusted them with their
two wands, yet this mushroom had somehow obtained the
other eight. It was an insult to think that he could
master one, but then his mind drifted to the legends. It
had been the mushrooms mages who had enchanted them, even
if it was forged by koopa's, they still were capable of
it. But the two wands that were not hidden had only been
held by koopa hands, thus creating the beleif only
koopa's could master them. This created all sort of
possibilities, if it were true. This would open the
window of the mushrooms dominating the koopa kingdom with
no trouble. He HAD to retreive those wands, if not, Mario
would be the least of their trouble.
"They got THE wands" Kammy observed.
"Ahh, I hardly noticed." Kamek replied,
voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Well, what do we do?"
"Retreive them, they are probally after their
'dead' freinds and the princess as well. After they get
what they want, we'll use her as a tradeoff for the wands."
"But she was our security in the likely event
Bowser failed again." Kammy pointed out.
"With those, the entire WORLD can be our
bargaining chip!" Kamek replied.
"Hmmph, I shall not be used to bargain for crude
peices of wood! Those jewels didn't even look real!"
Daisy retorted, clearly not amused with their charade.
---------
Later.
---------
"Ohh.... I can feel it!" Timier said
excitedly to Toad, "Our bodies are SO close!"
"What do we DO when we get there, anyhow?"
Toad asked.
"Find our bodies, put as back in!" Timier
replied as if were a simple process, "Once we find
them, the rest is smooth sailing! Of course.... Kamek and
Kammy are another matter, we'll have to get in unnoticed."
"How do we do that?" Toad asked.
"We'll think of something" Ten interrupted
in assurance, although his worst fear was using the wands.
Soon they arrived at the outstretched tower, it
seemed unguarded and uncared for. Above, it's
intimidating form lurked over them, daring anyone foolish
enough to enter.
They were just those fools to enter.
When the doors swung open, they all expected a fierce
battle by the guards. It would of been terrible for sure,
as their swift escape from Kiero and company had resulted
in the loss of most of their weaponry. But yet, nothing
appeared. No ambush. No raid. No sudden magic barrier.
Just a empty hallway filled with a musty stench that made
it seem that no one had been there for a long time. They
greeted it with mixed thoughts. Some were willing to go
with the optimistic view of striking lucky and no one
else was home. But others took the realistic view that
this was set up. Regardlessly they entered the large
building and went in unharmed. As they went on, the area
split off. One went spiraling downstairs, and the other
went upwards. Ten and Toad agreed to split up, even the
spirits taking alternate courses. Toad and the others
proceeded downwards, while Ten and the remaining went
upstairs.
The basement was far worse, the musty smell grew even
worse and the area was littered with foul little mousers.
They had to make sure they kept a close hold on their
items, in fear they would be stolen right out of their
hands. But they continued on regardless, they soon
arrived at another door. After opening it, they recoiled
in fear as they saw a entireline of coffins each with a
mushroom person inside. Yet the ghosts saw that these
were there bodies, and Timier related that to Toad. The
other spritis were still with Ten and the others though,
so they would have to call them here.
"How do we go about THAT?" Toad asked as he
looked up at the ceiling.
"Pretty simple" Timier replied, "I'll
simply call out a sound only ghosts and... dogs can hear!"
"Well... ok, I guess that'll work" Toad
replied.
Timier nodded and suddenly opened his mouth, they
couldn't hear anything but they were sure he was yelling
loudly. A few floors higher the ghosts accompanying Ten
picked it up instantly.
"Hey... that must mean they found our bodies!"
A female ghost exclaimed.
"Huh? How do you know?" Ten asked, changing
his attention from the corridor ahead.
"THAT is a secret!" Another ghost replied,
while waving his finger, "So we'll go down and get
our bodies!"
Ten sighed and nodded, "We'll meet you back down
at the entrance. Hopefully no one knows were here yet."
The ghosts soon departed and left the others alone.
They began to turn around and head back down the stairs.
As the were going, a nearby crate began to shake
violently, they slowly began to approach it. It shaked
even more as the neared it, they all jumped back in
fright. Then it exploded into peices, it jumped out and
landed right on top of Ten...
---------
Meanwhile.
---------
~Ditto McCloaker~
The room was quickly filled with Mush-ghosts as they
descended from the ceiling into the coffin chamber. There
were gasps and cries of joy as they beheld their bodies,
lying peacefully. They weren't perfect, however. Their
skins all had a greenish tint to them, and there were
mean-looking streaks of red across the eyes. In their
mouths, even though Mushrooms had no teeth, each one had
sprouted a cute pair of little white fangs.
"Hmmm... Hopefully that'll clear up when we re-enter..."
said Temier. He floated, Boo-like, over the rows of
coffins, until he finally stopped over the one containing
a mushroom that, despite it's zombification, resembled
him. He gave a broad smile to his waiting peers, and did
a perfect swan-dive into his body. Suddenly, there was
movement. The ghosts looked on in interest, but something
was wrong. Suddenly, there was a sound like something
being spat out, and a second later, Temier flew out of
his body and bounced around the room, finally coming to a
stop. He looked up, worried.
"It's no use!" he cried, dizzily. "I
can't get in!" He rubbed his forhead with his Boo-like
paw. "It's gotta be because of Necrokoopa's spell.
They're under a zombie spell, and we can't get in until
the spell is broken!"
The other ghosts sighed, unhappily. Toad looked
worried.
"But... you gotta! If you don't get back in
before sunup..."
"I know!" cried Tempier. "I know the
rule! But... without some magical help...!" Temier
looked at the puzzle box Toad held in his hands, and
sighed unhappily.
"One of the other wands in there may have the
power. Are you SURE you can't solve the puzzle?"
"I'm sure," said Toad, his sad voice tinged
with irritation.
Everyone sat (or floated) in silence. That is, until
one ghost happened to get a funny look on his face.
"Wait just a darn minute." he said,
suspiciously.
"What?" asked the forlorn Ten.
"Just how long have we been in Dark Land?"
Everyone stopped to ponder this. A mushroom spoke up.
"Seems like a long time."
"Right!" said the ghost. Think about it! We
haven't seen daylight since we entered the Koopa's forest.
And it feels like we've been in Dark Land almost a day
already!"
"Yeah..." said another ghost, perplexed.
"And we... haven't disappeared or anything."
added another ghost.
Toad looked out the window. It was dark, so it was
impossible to tell even what time of day it was. He came
to a startling conclusion.
"Because of that dense overcast... the sun never
really rises over Dark Land!"
"And when there's no sunrise..." added Ten.
"There's no sunset!" concluded Tempier
triumphantly. "I understand what you're getting at!
As long as we're in Dark Land..."
"We have all the time in the world!"
cheered the ghosts in unison. A glimmer of happiness
spread around the whole group, bodied and unbodied alike.
Suddenly, though, Toad's eyes opened wide.
"SSSSHHHH!" he cried. "Keep it down!
We're still in enemy territory, you know! We don't want
anyone to hear us!" he looked around, a sweatdrop on
his forehead. After a tense moment, they all sighed with
relief.
Until.
"Too late." said a sarcastic voice.
They all turned, to see a familiar sight, dressed in
unusually dark robes...
~Masamune~
As he began to fade into existence again, they could
make out the insiduous form of the Necrokoopa in all his
horror.
"You little..." He mumbled, "I see you
noticed my special little barrier, hmm?!"
"What is this!?" Toad demanded.
"The power of the wand... Morgress is
what granted the spell." The Necrokoopa replied,
"And only the opposite can remove it, but as I see...
it is quite unnaccesable right now."
With a wave of his hand, the room was surrounded by
several more blue magikoopas. Obviously the normal ranks
who were slightly skilled in all aspects, but not
superior in any. Each one held their rods at the
mushrooms as magic engulfed the wooden ends.
"We'll be taking that little box you have there..."
The Necrokoopa replied grimly, "In exchange for..."
To their suprise, Mario, Luigi and the Princess
suddenly appeared in chains and bonds. They looked tired
and downcast, as if they had no reason to live at all.
"The life of your freinds." The Necrokoopa
finished.
Toad looked at Timier, then over to Mario and the
others. A choice had to be made, either risk the lives of
all the mushrooms and the three prisoners and try to win.
Or he could simply hand them over, save the threesome but
eternally doom the ghosts to be without a body. Of
course, his decision was suddenly halted as a large furry
creature suddenly pounced on the Necrokoopa. The
surrounding Magikoopas likewise vanished, apparently
being some sort of mirage. Then the three prisoners were
transformed in to the yellow clad forms that made up
Transakoopa atire. Approaching from the rear of the
beast, was Ten and the other mushrooms. The three
transakoopas then casted a spell, causing the three of
them, including the Necrokoopa, to vanish.
"What happened!?" Ten asked as he walked
in, "They are all ghosts, still!"
"Yes..." Toad sighed, "The Necrokoopa
used his wand to seal the bodies inside."
"So were stuck." Timier finished, "But
on the bright side, we still mantain a link as long as we
or the bodies don't leave the Dark Land."
They all nodded and took in the situation. They would
have to unlock the puzzle box, but only Kiero and his
gang knew exactly how to do it.
"What... is that!?" Rinaz exclaimed,
breaking the silence as he pointed to the large mammoth
of a canine.
"Hehehe... It's a poochy." Ten replied,
"Some how it was in a crate and stirred up after the
rest of you left."
"Must of been the ghost call" Timier
deduced, mimicing the sound again and causing the poor
Poochy to cover his doggy ears and howl.
"Shouldn't we be leaving?" Truffle
interrupted, "We -are- sitting in the middle of the
Magikoopa fortress! If we go back to Kiero's village,
maybe we can find out how to open it..."
They all nodded in agreement and headed up stairs,
Poochy chased away several of the mousers on the way up.
They continued out the hall and outside, they were about
to keep going when they were met with two dark looking
characters. On one side was the elder magikoopa, Kamek
Koopa. On the other was cheif of magikoopas and sister of
the latter, Kammy Koopa. In each hand was held one of the
ten wands, apparently the ones the Sparkoopa and
Necrokoopa had been in possesion of before.
"The road ends HERE." Kamek began as he
looked over the large group, "I trust you had fun
playing in our castle? I see you also found one of our
prisoners as well, that stupid Poochy."
Toad's hand moved to the wand, but Kammy held her
hand up, "You may have more wands, but there is only
one of you who can hold one. We are far more skilled than
the two you met before... Attacking us would be deadly."
"What is it you want?" Ten asked angrily.
"The wands." Kamek answered simply.
"Fat chance we'll give them to you!" One of
the ghosts shouted, intent on getting his body back.
"We do not expect you to GIVE them to us!"
Kammy chuckled, "We have something you may want..."
With a wave of her hand and the muttering of a
incantation, Daisy was thrown from the air on to the
ground below. Tied from arms to her legs and mouth
muffled, she could do or say nothing to the mushrooms.
Kamek adjusted his spectacles and glared at Toad, "I
am in a forgiving mood... I will give you the princess,
let you keep the wand in your hand and even teleport you
all home."
"It's a trick!" Truffle exclaimed, "Why
would he let you keep a wand?"
"It has bonded of course." Kamek replied as
if it were common knowledge, "Once bonded, it will
always find a way to return. No matter how hard he would
try to rid himself of it."
Getting home, isn't that what they wanted to do? And
they would save the princess at the same time. Ever since
the flood, that had been all Toad had tried to do, get
them home safely. Yet after the transakoopas, obtaining
the wands, Kiero's bunch and now even within the precense
of the most powerful magikoopas, it seemed so foreign.
What had he been expecting, facing Bowser and saving the
day in Mario's absence? Now he was forced with the most
difficult decision in his life. And on top of that,
giving the wands would be giving up ever getting the
ghosts back in their bodies. There was not much of a
decision, it was already obvious what to do.
A lump formed in his throat as he began to croak out
his reply. But as he spoke, his eyes behld something in
the distance. In the mountains, from the very spot they
decended. A small form appeared, followed by several
others following it. They moved at a rapid speed and soon
he realized they were flying. As they came closer and
closer, he could make out the distinctions of the one in
lead. Kiero had come! Somehow or other, they had obtained
wings and were coming to rescue them, or so he hoped.
The first ones arrived, grabbed a mushroom person and
then flew off back in the direction the came. More and
more they came and grabbed them. As Toad was suddenly
grabbed, he yelled to the koopa carrying him to get
Poochy and Daisy. The ghosts floated on their own after
the grouo. Behind however, to his horror, the puzzle box
had been left behind. Even if his yells could be heard
over the noise, it was to late. As Kammy and Kamek had
already seized it for their own. As he was carried away
from the impending battle, he could hear the enraged
screams and curses coming from Kamek. He could see magic
blasts soar through the air and nearly hit several of the
koopas. His eyes shut as he sincerely wished for the
safety of the others. As he did, the wand Kichra
in his hands began to glow. Kamek, Kammy and all the
