I gotta see, this is pretty great stuff. Goes back to the spirit of the original comics. And brings back many of the classic characters, even minor ones like Mr. Warren and such. There's Harry and Norman Osborn, Gwen Stacy (Harry and Gwen being Peter's "high school best friends" and Gwen having the appearance of a hot nerd), Liz Allan and Flash Thompson (although Liz is no Hispanic and it looks like thy were trying to make her like Paulina, the "popular girl" from Danny Phantom), the Connors and Eddy Brock (Pete and Gwen work with them as an internship at Empire State, Eddy being an old friend of Pete's, and of course there's Lizard foreshadowing) plus JJJ, Robbie, Betty Brant and Aunt May (whose curfew results in interesting phone calls).

I'd definitely consider it above The Batman, the new Fantastic Four series and MTV's Spider-Man. It's not too kid-oriented. Although I think it's weird that pete has two best friends who will be turning evil somewhere down the line (Harry and Eddie Brock). I also don't like their Harry, who's a real wimp. I prefer the more independent/rebel version from the movies and the Ultimate comics who had a larger influence on Peter.

I, too, watched this show. I was worried that they'd skew too young with it, but I think they kept it pretty well balanced. The villain motives were sometimes lacking. (Vulture: I'll kill you if you don't apologize! and Electro: I'mma smash your lab until you discover a cure for my condition!).

But the show has a lot of potential. I don't care for how they draw regular humans, but The Batman could learn from how they redid character costumes without making them stupid. I thought the action sequences were great. Good use of Spider-Man's powers to have enjoyable scenes that don't offend the censors. Great animation in those, too.

Overall, it's a good reason to get out of bed on Saturday mornings.

Ah, I forgot about MTV's Spiderman cartoon. I watched it up until it was canceled, which...wasn't that long after it aired, I think. I just know it was cel-shaded and had Linkin Park playing during the opening credits. *Shudder*

I really want to watch the 90's Spiderman and Batman cartoons again. I've seen Spiderman (No, not him and his amazing friends) on Jetix a few times, and I know they have box sets of batman too, but I haven't bought them yet.

So, when and where is this show on?

Yeah, I'd like to see it too. Sounds like that teenage X-Men show from not too long ago, which was surprisingly watchable.

The 90s Spider-Man was good, but it hasn't aged as well as Batman. I think the voice acting is to blame for that.

After the run of super hero cartoons after the Timm era (and X-Men Evolution [that was alright too]) I was kinda scared. Now I'm in love with the show. I like the art style of it as it isn't so Anime like all the action cartoons nowadays. The Vulture actually looks cool, and they didn't give Electro a starfish mask! I just can't wait to see the other villain designs. Also, everyone seems to be giving these villians their names... It makes sense for them to adopt it when the media names them (that's how it worked with Zodiac).

I don't think I've ever really been that big a fan of the art style that cartoons have been using lately. Everything looks flat, but that does make it look more colorful. At least with 'The Batman' cartoon Batman actually looked somewhat muscular, but Spiderman just looks scrawny. I guess another example could be the new George of the Jungle cartoon. George pretty much has no muscle, or well, anything he should have, or did have in the old movie/cartoon.

I suppose the next step would be a new He-Man cartoon where Adam has absolutely no build and can still lift boulders.

I'm exaggerating, but yeah. It's hard to find a cartoon these days which focuses on the detail and especially the artwork of the comics. Avatar is a good example, even though it doesn't have that much character detail. The animation is beautiful for a TV cartoon.

The MTV Spider-Man: I watched about two episodes and hated it. I don't remember exactly why, but I do recall that the bad CGI cell shading was horrible to watch.

As to Spider-Man's character model, I didn't mind it. His muscles are denser than yours!

Also, the 90s Batman boxed sets are worth every penny. Volume One has more bad episodes than the other sets, but makes up for it with the quality of the villain origins. There's just a lot of variation in quality.

The second and third sets are more consistant. Volume Two is notable for having the most Joker episodes, which are always great to watch.

I'm continuing to like this show. It's taking alot from the early comics as well, as I see when I reread my Essentials reprints. Even obscure characters and plotlines like the Big Man, Sally Avril (and I'm curious as to how they handle her considering her tragic fate in the comics), the Enforcers and such.

That was a pretty sweet plot twist with Tombstone. I guess we have some plotlines coming after all.

I am watching it right now, and the opening alone was amazing. The Green Goblin has arrived.

Update: The conversations between Green Goblin and Spider-Man contain some of the best quips I've heard in a cartoon. And I watched the Steven Spielberg stuff in the '90s.

I'm pretty sure that a certain green liquid was a red herring.

Spoilers in white:

Because why would Harry care about upending the Big Man? If he were the Goblin, he'd be focused on taking revenge on the football players, not cutting the middle-man out of an evil scheme. I'd like to see what the serum is (I like how its name was something like "Green Golobuen"). Maybe it's related to his sudden athleticism, and maybe it's the goblin formula or a variation thereof (without the crazy), but I'm not yet convinced he's the Goblin.

spoilers in white of course.

I enjoyed yesterdays episode as well. It was a great intoduction to the Green Goblin, I mean in the 90's Spiderman cartoon the Green Goblin was introduced very late...even after the Hobgoblin. So I was happy about that.

Also the fact that the Green Goblin was not caught was great. Even the greatest superhero cartoon of all time BTAS made that mistake with Ms. Kyle in her first rendezvous. I think the green liquid in question is a con as well. Of course Steve T already explained it to those in question...
