R.O.B.

Image

R.O.B., the Robotic Operating Buddy from the NES, makes a grand entrance into the maelstrom!

His stately form has received a lot of attention, but it’s his air of gentle playfulness that really charms us.

R.O.B.'s Special Moves

Standard Special Move.........Robo Beam
Side Special Move ...................Arm Rotor
Up Special Move.......................Robo Burner
Down Special Move...................Gyro
Final Smash..............................Diffusion Beam

Tips

Standard Special Move: Robo Beam

Image

A straight, fast, piercing beam!

This ultrafast shooting move is one of R.O.B.’s key weapons.

It has a couple of interesting characteristics.

1. You can change the angle of the shot.

Image

If the shot hits the ground, it can ricochet.

2. You can’t fire again immediately after you use it.

Image

Fzzzzh. There’s just not enough energy.

3. If you don’t use it for a bit, it will become a Super Robo Beam.

Image

This time he’s at full power.

He stores his energy in the diode on his head, so you can tell when he’s charged up by looking at the light there. Cooooool...

Side Special Move: Arm Rotor

Push the button repeatedly to increase the power of the spin and continue attacking. You can even deflect projectiles.

Image

Ba-ching! This move is bound to come in handy...

Up Special Move: Robo Burner

This move allows R.O.B. to hover by using his booster jets.

Image

His stand can now be used for flight!

Keep tilting the Control Stick up to continue using the Robo Burners. There’s a fixed amount of fuel though, and when it’s gone you won’t be able to fly. By using the Control Stick to control when the jets are on and off, you’ll be able to earn more mileage.

But when you land, your fuel gets replenished. You’ll have a full tank again in a little less than 1.5 seconds.

However, when your fuel level is low and you’re landing or refueling, it's the perfect time for others to attack you, so watch out!

If you’re launched into the air repeatedly, you might not have a chance to refuel and you won’t be able to recover.

Image

Enemies might attack when you land.

Down Special Move: Gyro

An item you can charge up and throw? There aren’t too many of those.

Image

More spin, more spin...

Image

And throw!

Once it’s been charged up, the gyros are pretty powerful, but since they’re items, opponents can pick them up and use them, too. There can only be one on the screen at a time, so pick your moment and throw!

Image

They’re also effective in Multi-Man Brawl. Use it with the Robo Beam for combos!

HOW TO UNLOCK
----------------------

Wait a minute. No Final Smash explanation? Thats odd. I thought Sakurai was trying to get everything out there. What reason would he have to stall?

Strange that the US art is the Famicom Colors. In Mario Kart DS, they changed his art to NES gray.

Isnt it obvious? The GB Micro Famicom skin was released in the US. That means we were exposed to Famicom colors! Sakurai is totally using that as a basis for his Im going to stop talking now.

Man, I had no idea that old thing was such a death machine. Glad I didn't buy one... he'd have destroyed my house.

He's in Mario Kart AND Brawl. And I haven't a clue why.
He is the second most horrible hardware made by Nintendo, only because they happened to have made Virtual Boy as well.

(The Power Glove was not made by Nintendo.)

I still have my ROB I affectionately call Johnny Five.

ROB is an awesome character. Also, kvb, I wish the VB was more represented... like Harry from Teleroboxer... or a Virtual Boy as an item, just turns the play field into black and red... just to annoy everyone but me.

Once I got ROB on MKDS, I played him about half the time.... that may well happen to me with Brawl. I'm fine with so many ROB haters out there... means I can enjoy him more.

Same with me about MKDS R.O.B. He became my favorite with his little "Victory Dance"

I make this vow: I shall MASTER R.O.B. and bring him AGAINST you and MY ROB shall be VICTORIOUS over YOUR ROB!

It'll be a ROB-OFF!

Yeah I think after I unlocked ROB in MK DS I used him for just about the rest of the game. And won. Cause Im a winner.

Also Im really not sure if someone from a VB-only game could represent VB. Unless they all band together to form the Virtual Boy Brigade. I like the idea of a sentient VB though.

I would like more VB representation myself. I loved that they put VB references in WarioWare games.

R.O.B. references are damn fine too, but a character? Isn't that a bit too much glory for that... thing?

Without ROB, there'd be no Nintendo. That makes him a big deal in my book. Cuz I lurves my Nintendo!

And he makes a neat Mr. Game & Watch type character. Just think though. If it wasn't ROB, we could've had another Star Fox/Landmaster rep. Is that what you wanted!?

According to some people when we didn't know the full roster, the ROB was ROB from Star Fox... so we may very well have had another Landmaster character.
