I support the two Donkey Kong theory. Everyone should. Because its true. Its whether or not you support Grandfather/Grandson or Father/Son. The topic of importance here is actually that "Brawl supports DK Grandfather/Grandson Theory."

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2 and DKC 3 GBA's instruction manuals also seem to support the two Kongs. I'm glad Brawl is also acknowledging the double Donkey Kong, redeeming them for the confusion they caused with the DK trophy description in Melee.

Donkey Kong Country. Cranky's conversations clearly assume the Donkey Kong you're playing doesn't know what he's doing and that Cranky is a veteran of video games.

And also, even though no one seems to take this to mean anything... the creators of DKC intended Cranky to be the original Donkey Kong, even though it never says explicitly within the game itself.

This is why.

Cranky being the original DK is as canon as Ganondorf's last name being Dragmire. It just gets mentioned a lot more.

I think kvb meant the theory of there being only one DK. I think it has a lot to do with Mario vs. DK.

This is why I asked. I found that to be a crappy base for the theory.
Firstly, the game Cranky described sounded nothing like the DK arcade game. And secondly, DK's history doesn't affect his experience. Mind you that if he was the Arcade Donkey Kong, all his previous games had him as the antagonist; the guy who always loses in the end.

Luiigii cleared it right up for me, though. I guess there is some actual canon evidence.

Not in the slightest. Dragmire was made up by American translators. The Cranky as original DK was made by the people who actually made the game and has been supported in various other games that are also canon.

Now, if I could just find a game to support my crackpot "triple Kiddy Kong" theory...
