It was fan translated from the Japanese text I believe and not the American version. So either the fanslators are doing it wrong or Sakurai made an oopsie.

You're joking, right?
So you mean Bowser's name being Bowser is not canon? After all, some translator made that up.

"Bowser" appears multiple times within the game itself.

Also, (I'm too lazy to do another quote...) The beginning of DKC is innuendo enough to establish that Cranky is the original DK. He's standing on some red steel girders listening to the original DK song, and then the new DK comes in blows it away, and starts jamming to a newer version.

You mentioned that Cranky's descriptions of games don't always match the DK arcade, is because he's talking about older games in general, and he's also over exaggerating as old people do like "I walked to school in ten feet of snow uphill both directions"

The topic of importance here is actually that "Brawl supports DK Grandfather/Grandson Theory."

Im a Father/Son Supporter but this doesnt really bug me.

It has to be Grandfather/Grandson, though. The story for Mario vs. DK 2 states that this was the first time DK had ever seen Pauline, but DK Jr. saw her during Donkey Kong '94.

Yeah you see...uh...um...

He was DK Jr. A little kid. It clearly means this was the first time DK had really "seen" Pauline if you know what I mean.

I think a more verifiable source would be Cranky. Doesnt he call DK his son in King of Swing or Jungle Climber? Last time I think he did it was DK64 but I havent played those two. Or Bongo Blast. Or Konga 2.

Well, honestly, I can't even count the amount of "oopsies" in Melee. At least there's less.

Youd think so but the description for the Mario trophy says that Mario invented Nintendo and created all video games and plays Halo in his spare time.

I think the problem with the Grandpa/Grandson theory is that there's a very large hole in it. That hole is the exact shape of DK's dad if the current DK is Cranky Kong's grandson. It's totally possible, but I just wonder where he'd be.

Well, the Donkey thing was debatable in it's day...but it's good that is put to rest...but Kaptain K. Rool being King K. Rool's brother is absurd! I heard that in Japan, the instruction manual for DKC2 said that the King and Kaptain were brothers... Hopefully NOA reads the trophies and corrects things like this rather than just translating them...oh well... and why doesn't Baron K. Roolenstein get mentioned at all? Is he not important? or is he like...the K. Rools' uncle or something like that in Japanese canon? The world will never know.

If Cranky is the grandfather, then that means the current DK's father is... the old Donkey Kong Jr.

So look for a chap wearing a bib with Jr. written on it.

Maybe he got eaten by a Nitpicker.

The debate over grandfather/grandson father/son always seemed to boil down to whether the original statement (DKC) or the more recent statement (DKC's GBA port?) was canon.

Well now both support grandfather/grandson. Gloats and taunts at all those who were wrong all along!

I wouldnt call those defeinite since they use practically the same script. Its like watching a remastered DVD. DK64 supports Father/Son and Id consider that more legitimite then DKC GBA.

Like I said. I think King of Swing or Jungle Climber or something released in the last 5 years probably says something, so Id consider that to override DK64's Father/Son thing. In fact I think in the later years, Rare wanted it to mean Father/Son.

As far as I see it, The Grandfather/Grandson codec is Sakurai looking at DKC1 stuff and not doing anymore research then that.
