Volume 2 of the previous interview is up with Iwata asking 2 really old Nintendo employees about the early days.

And no, he didn't dig up and subsequently reanimate the corpse of Fusajiro Yamauchi.

EDIT: Oh we've conveniently started a new page! Here's a link then: http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks/mario25th/vol2_page1.jsp

Man, that was one of the best yet. What a trip down memory lane. How things you liked came to be. I tell ya, I'm glad I don't work for Yamauchi.

Satoru Iwata: 1982 was the year I entered the working world! (laughs)
Me: 1982 was the year I entered the walking world! (laughs)

Gotta love Miyamoto's uber-pragmatism when making a game. Mario was very nearly "Mr. Video, the Middle Aged Man." Somehow, "Super Jumpman Video, Middle Aged Man 64" wouldn't have been as catchy.

Koopas: Ah crap, our ball went into old man Video's yard again!

or

Princess: Thank you for saving me, kindly old Mr. Video!
Mr. Video: No problem, but I hope you'll fix the potholes in this place's roads. Seriously, they're like, bottomless. I nearly drove my Buick into a hundred on the way here. I think my front axel needs work and my insurance ain't gonna cover it, and I gotta get to the drug store to get some Mylanta and some beans.

Super Mario All-Stars volume 2 is up. While the first volume discussed the bonus CD in the Wii release, the second volume talks about the development of the original SNES game.

Young? Even the young guy looks like he's constipated and bitter about today's youth. The other three men look like they're melting.

I said young compared to the last guys. They're young compared to the last guys. Remember when he interviewed those great-grandpas? Why don't you click that link again, then click Volume 2, then you'll see what I mean.

I expected something very different when I saw the part entitled "Gestures in the Night"...

Edit: Think my favorite line so far is "I'd say Tezuka-san probably had some influence on the Super Mario Bros. 3 drawings. You know, he wanted to draw eyes on just about anything."

Also find it really interesting how they address the clash between Mario's "cute" and cool aspects

It has been updated... with... a fourth volume! And there will be a fifth! Will this ever end?!

We have Ocarina of Time interviews- three volumes so far. http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/zelda-ocarina-of-time

And of course there is a full section about fishing. It's actually kinda hilarious since it turns out the fishing minigame started as one developer's equivalent of playing Solitaire at work. Also, my favorite line:

Iwata: Yeah. There are a few places where you get lost.

Morita: Like in the Water Temple.

Aonuma: Man, don't go into that! (laughs)

I loved the part where Morita told the story about how he made the Fishing Game. Started by slacking off at work, then when it caught on he finagled his way onto the design team and started stealing resources to fill it in.

The after-interview must've been interesting.

Iwata: You really broke a lot of rules to create that minigame! (laughs)

Morita: Yeah, yeah I guess I did! (laughs)

Iwata: I'm going to have your computer scanned to see what you do these days! (laughs)

Morita: I still do it to this day! (laughs)

Iwata: We're going to have to have a long talk about your future employment here! (laughs)

Morita: Uh oh! (laughs)

Iwata: Clean out your desk right now! (laughs)

Morita: But I have a wife and children! (laughs)

Iwata: Too bad.

Morita: (laughs)

Iwata: :eyebrow:

Morita: :|

Iwata: :awesome:

...All on the next "IWATA INTERROGATES"
