This is the email I sent to Mattias and Marcus. Please note they have not responded to this yet, so I don't know in what way they are planning on letting me do each point.
I understand I won't be able to get much inside help for it until
NintendoLand launches. This is fine, I was aware of this when made the
request. I'd like to think of it as building a larger fanbase for when
NintendoLand does launch, rather than just riding on its revival.
Before I begin any work on anything, I just wanted to ask some things,
make a few requests, and basically outline what my current plans and
goals are.
The Layout. I plan on reinventing the layout, but very much basing it
off the current one. Before I do that, I wanted to ask if you had any
source files leftover that could aid me in this. If not, I'm usually
very good at manipulating existing images in a pinch. Also, on that
subject, will I be able to have my own setup outside of NintendoLand's
frames? I was planning on being consistent with TGA and NintendoLand's
layout (Left Frame for navigation, middle for content, and right for
the logo). Is this acceptable?
*-Mario Characters and Villains... Although the Encyclopedia already
covers these characters, I'm too fond of this section to do much more
than to update it with the times. I'd probably keep them both mutually
exclusive.
*-Reviews, I noticed, are located outside of the /mario/ directory.
I'd like to have reviews for the Mario section. But, to make this
work, all I would ask to do is make copies of the current ones and put
them in the /mario/ directory, therefor not having to ask the two of
you to do any special link changing of any sort. This, if given
permission, I could handle by myself.
*The Birth of Mario and Shigeru Miyamato are both excellent articles.
I don't have any plans to change them.
*-The Enemy Encyclopedia is, to an extent sort of obsolete compared to
the current encyclopeda. By this I mean no offense, for I have a
certain idea for it. That is, to make it into a bestiary of all the
different enemies in the series, showing marked changes in their
evolution.
*-The Games I plan to expand to include games released since then. In
time, if I can people to work together on it, I'd like to expand the
information to include game help and other relevant information, such
as text resources (like game endings and instruction manuals).
*-The Show & Movies need little change, but shall remain as up-front
content. Some modifications, however, shall be made about the DVD
releases since the information was written.
*-Merchandise is a tricky one, it is embedded in a separate part of
the site and would be outside of my ability to work with. Even then,
working on it would be difficult given my lack of knowledge on what
stuff has been sold under the Mario brand. If I could attract a person
with such a interest, I might be able to update it. But this would
mean splitting it off from the page
http://www.nintendoland.com/funfacts/merchs/index.htm*-Fanfiction. I'm not sure where you guys stand on that. I'll leave
the talking on this to you.
On Added Sections....
*-Encyclopeda will be not much different from the Zelda one. For the
sake of convenience, I will continue linking the images there off my
own domain until NintendoLand enjoys a full revival.
*-Fanart... TML and I sent e-mails regarding this awhile back. To make
it a reality and something that, eventually, all of NintendoLand can
use, we only need two things.
--- A FTP directory such as 'nintendoland.com/gallery' that TML and I
can both access with the same password.
--- An empty database. From that we'd only need the hostname (which
should just be localhost or 'servername'.com), the database name,
database user, and the password. The rest of it can be handled on our
side, including installing it, maintaining it, and even backups.
*- News system would be virtually identical to TGA's, run on CuteNews.
Other things may be run on it in the future, such as articles or
mailbags.
*- Multimedia. I have been toying with the idea of making video files
of Mario things using my capture card. Ranging from memorable moments
in games to game endings or similar things. But I don't want to risk
straining the server from multiple downloads of large files. Would
NintendoLand's server be able to handle something like this?
